Feb 3, 2021 at 8:06 PMThe Greenferry I arrives today in Cuxhaven around 6:00 PM. The arrival was actually expected tomorrow, but the weather in the North Sea favored an earlier arrival. The new Greenferry I is powered by LNG, thus reducing emissions and pollutants.
(Cuxhaven) Excitement is rising. With great anticipation and equal excitement, Elbferry announces that the new ferry of the shipping company, the Greenferry I, will reach the port of Cuxhaven today.
The original plans had scheduled the arrival of the environmentally friendly LNG-powered ferry for tomorrow, Thursday, February 4, in the early morning hours. However, the current weather conditions over the North Sea favor a significantly earlier arrival of the ship.
Thus, the new express for an optimal future crossing of the Elbe between Brunsbüttel in Schleswig-Holstein and Cuxhaven in Lower Saxony will be taken over by the pilots Eta Elbe around 4 PM today to ensure a safe entry into the port of Cuxhaven.
Capacity 150 cars and 28 trucks
The Greenferry I has a capacity of 212 cars or 150 cars and 28 trucks. Passengers on the ferry can expect a modern passenger area with a capacity of up to 600 people. A culinary offering invites guests, combined with a splendid view over the Elbe and the green marshland, to a mini-cruise. The crossing duration of 60 minutes will be ensured at 3-hour intervals.
The new GREENFERRY I is powered by LNG. Liquefied Natural Gas is gaining ground as a fuel in shipping and is considered more environmentally friendly than conventional fuels such as heavy oil and marine diesel, significantly reducing emissions and pollutants in the air. The state-of-the-art LNG ferry offers an ecological alternative to the existing Elbe crossings.
The exact arrival at the New Fishing Port of Cuxhaven is currently estimated at around 6:12 PM. In the coming days, the ferry will be adapted and equipped in Cuxhaven for regular ferry operations. The start of the new ferry connection Brunsbüttel-Cuxhaven is scheduled for March 2021.
