3. February 2021The logistics specialist Heinloth from Roth near Nuremberg has a unique selling proposition in Germany with an innovative measuring system for cutting cables and conduits. The machine is located in its own hall. Additionally, there is an automatic drum feed. Heinloth also delivers the processed products on time.
(Roth near Nuremberg) In 2017, the first planning began, and in 2019, the commissioning took place in the hall built specifically for this purpose. Today, it is already an important part of the company: the in-house measuring system for cables and conduits of the Roth logistics specialist Heinloth – the logistic experts. With this unique system in Germany, the corporate group meets the increasing demand for cables in precise lengths throughout Germany. Moreover, it is an essential part of the comprehensive complete solutions that Heinloth offers its customers. Owner Roland Heinloth states: “For us, it is always about the entire value chain and efficiency for our customers. The measuring system further improves all processes.” The project connects “the highest quality standards on various levels”.
Optimization of all upstream and downstream processes

Measuring system as a unique selling proposition
The innovative measuring system enables a customized and precise cutting of cables made of copper, lead, and fiber optic, as well as single or composite pipes made of plastic on the company premises in mid-Franconia Roth. The system, which costs several hundred thousand euros and is one of the few of its kind in Europe, has a calibrated measuring accuracy of 0.04 percent. This guarantees a deviation of a maximum of four millimeters for ten meters of material length and is suitable for pipe and cable diameters ranging from three to 80 millimeters. The contactless measurement via a laser and the automated drum feed optimize the material flow and all upstream and downstream processes.
Material-saving provision
Additionally, the specially built and heated hall contributes to this, allowing for a material-saving provision and cutting of cables even at low outdoor temperatures. The connection to the warehouse management system also provides significant advantages: On the one hand, there is real-time feedback of all order data from cable length to target drum number, and on the other hand, the stocks are continuously updated through fully automated order processing. The error rate of employees is also minimized, as only one user interface is necessary for the entire system.
Heinloth’s service offering goes beyond just storing and measuring the goods: To ensure the direct further processing of the cut cables for the customer, Heinloth also plans the transfer to the respective place of use afterwards. The Roth logistics specialist organizes, for example, specially required cranes for this purpose.
Years of expertise shape the in-house project
Based on its own long-standing experiences, the internal planning and development process was carried out in close collaboration with the long-standing contract logistics customer “Bayerische Kabelwerke AG” as well as a machine builder. “It was important for us to utilize our expertise and actively plan and implement the project ourselves,” says project manager Frederik Pleick. Additionally, external know-how was brought in at specific points, “to meet all requirements 100 percent,” Pleick further explains. With the system, they are now even better able to respond quickly and specifically to the demands of customers and the market.
