4. February 2021HARDER logistics GmbH Achieves Best Year Since Its Founding
4. February 2021The software developer LIS AG has registered increased interest in the cloud-based Transport Management System TMS WinSped. A new IT infrastructure increases capacity for additional users. The new server room was planned and built according to DIN standard EN 50600.
(Greven) LIS Logistische Informationssysteme AG has completed the construction of its new data center. With the new and larger server room at its headquarters in Greven, the software developer is responding to the increased demand from customers for an online application of its Transport Management System (TMS) WinSped. The cloud solution allows freight forwarders and shippers to plan and track their routes independently of location. A total of 64 companies are already using the server-based version.
Modern IT Structures are Relevant
“Particularly in the past months of working from home, it has become clear how relevant modern IT structures are. By providing access to WinSped via a simple internet connection, we help logistics companies to operate flexibly and independently,” says Rolf Hansmann, board member of LIS Logistische Informationssysteme AG. “This makes them more resilient to external influences such as a pandemic,” adds Hansmann. In addition to the gained adaptability and resilience, users of the data center benefit from further advantages. Backup and update services, for example, are automatically applied. Additionally, thanks to the use of LIS servers, there are no costs for otherwise necessary hardware and its maintenance. This also eliminates the additional effort for implementation and the personnel for data backup. Connecting additional devices and workstations is also possible without any issues. The room with a total of ten new servers at the headquarters in Greven was planned and built according to DIN standard EN 50600, and certification is aimed for the first quarter of this year. Together, they have 7.5 terabytes of RAM, more than 100 terabytes of storage space, and 240 CPU cores (Central Processing Unit). There is also sufficient space for future expansions, as currently five server racks are only half occupied.
Fire Protection System and Emergency Power Supply
Security is ensured by both burglary and fire protection systems. Additionally, the system has an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that can provide energy to our systems for over an hour in the event of a power outage. This keeps it operational even during a power failure. In the unlikely event of a blackout, an emergency power generator kicks in. Besides the power supply, the cooling is also designed redundantly. Two independent systems cool the cold aisle. Furthermore, the servers are dimensioned so that even the failure of two machines can be managed: In a second server room in a separate building, LIS provides similar server capacity to restore the environment in case of loss of the main server room. This scenario is practiced once a month.
