(Berlin-Schönefeld) UNITAX-Pharmalogistik GmbH will supply hospitals, senior facilities, and vaccination centers in the state of Brandenburg with the COVID-19 vaccine from BioNTech/Pfizer. A corresponding contract with the state of Brandenburg was signed on December 10. The first vaccination centers in Brandenburg are currently being established in Potsdam and Cottbus, with an additional nine vaccination centers expected to be added across the state starting in January.
Temperature-controlled Transport is Standard
UNITAX will distribute the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine, which must currently be stored at -75°C and transported under refrigeration. “Temperature-controlled storage and transport according to GDP guidelines are part of our standard offering,” explains André Reich, managing partner of UNITAX. “Due to the special requirements for vaccine logistics, we have already invested in additional cooling equipment.” UNITAX supplies pharmacies, clinics, and care facilities in Germany daily with pharmaceuticals and medical products from its locations in Schönefeld, Großbeeren, and Nuremberg. Currently, the state of Brandenburg assumes that daily deliveries to the vaccination centers will be necessary after the complete establishment of the vaccination centers. To achieve the so-called herd immunity, at least 1.5 million residents of Brandenburg would need to be vaccinated; as of now, two vaccinations spaced three weeks apart are required for this.
