11. February 2021In 2021, around 100 companies, universities, associations, and publishers are once again working together to promote the image of logistics. The initiative ‘The Economic Makers’, founded at the end of 2018, is drawing public attention to Germany’s third-largest economic sector with over three million employees for the third consecutive year.
(Bremen) This year, the campaigns and activities of ‘The Economic Makers’ will primarily be visible in digital channels. Around the ‘Logistics Day’ on April 15, a video campaign featuring apprentices, students, and young professionals is planned. Under the title ‘Logistics is where I am’, young people will introduce themselves and their jobs in logistics. The short clips will be distributed on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and a dedicated landing page on their own website. ‘Our goal is, among other things, to convey the importance and diversity of logistics through concrete examples and authentic stories,’ explains Economic Makers spokesperson Frauke Heistermann.
Video Campaign for ‘Logistics Day’
To achieve this, the initiators are focusing this year on particularly relevant topics such as system relevance, future technologies, sustainability, and complexity. ‘The importance of logistics has grown during the Corona pandemic, and the appreciation has increased. There is therefore significantly more attention for our concerns,’ noted Frauke Heistermann. This development is evidenced by the Economic Makers’ key figures from 2020: Not only did the access numbers to the campaign website increase significantly, but the number of followers on social media channels and the downloads of thematic brochures also rose sharply.
Participants as Multipliers
The Economic Makers also rely on the engagement of the approximately 100 participants in their activities. They contribute not only with topics and practical examples that inform the various campaigns and actions but also serve as multipliers by providing distribution channels for thematic brochures, social media postings, and video clips. ‘The DNA of our initiative is collaborative and cohesive action. In this way, we achieve significantly more visibility than anyone could alone,’ believes Heistermann, adding: ‘Communication and networking are essential parts of our work.’
Representing the Diversity of Logistics
To gain the attention of the general public, the initiative also maintains contacts with daily and business press as well as news agencies. Media professionals are regularly provided with topics and contacts and supported in their research or with image material. As part of the ‘transport logistic’ conference, which will take place from June 4 to 6 instead of the canceled in-person fair, the Economic Makers will invite to a virtual press conference together with Messe München. On all three conference days, there will also be moderated talk rounds with interesting conversation partners during breakfast time, which will be broadcast live on the internet. Frauke Heistermann: ‘Logistics is full of exciting stories. We want to present them entertainingly and authentically to create a better image.’
Achieving More Together
To ensure that this overarching image work for logistics reaches even further circles and achieves greater reach, the Economic Makers are advocating for more companies to join the circle of participants: ‘The initiative is the only one of its kind in the logistics sector and has firmly established itself. The more companies participate, the more we can achieve together,’ emphasizes spokesperson Heistermann.
The Economic Makers
The initiative ‘The Economic Makers’ aims to improve the image of logistics in society. Around 100 companies, logistics-related associations, clubs, and media participate in the initiative. These include corporations such as Airbus, BMW, or VW, retail companies like EDEKA and Amazon Deutschland Services GmbH, logistics service providers like ITG, Kühne + Nagel, LGI, LOXXESS, Meyer Logistik, Seifert Logistics, or ZUFALL, software companies like AEB and PSI, as well as associations and networks like the Air Cargo Community Frankfurt, the Federal Association of Logistics (BVL), the Federal Association of Parcel and Express Logistics (BIEK), the Federal Association of Freight Forwarders and Logistics (DSLV), the German Transport Forum, the Initiative for Logistics Properties (Logix), the General Cargo Network System Alliance, the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), and other companies and non-profit organizations from various sectors. The initiative is open to additional supporters.
