18. February 2021For its warehouse in Italy, Andreas STIHL S.p.A., the global market leader in outdoor power tools, relies on Swisslog. A state-of-the-art facility is being created for high goods throughput. The new AutoStore system includes 16,900 containers on 16 levels and is equipped with 17 robots and 5 picking stations. The control is managed by Swisslog’s SynQ software.
(Buchs/AG CH; Cambiago/IT) The warehouse of Andreas STIHL S.p.A. reached its capacity limits due to the strong growth in product volume and the expansion of the product range. It was necessary to redesign a modern and efficient warehouse. The company commissioned Swisslog to realize an automated warehouse with high storage performance, located at the Cambiago plant.
Focus on Sustainability
The automated warehouse of Andreas STIHL S.p.A. features workstations for storage, picking, and inventory, new storage and handling capacities, as well as an expanded picking area.
Today, the company employs 71 people in Italy and relies on green manufacturing methods from production to distribution with a strong focus on sustainability. In the last ten years, Andreas STIHL S.p.A. has quadrupled its revenue, thanks in part to innovation and qualified service.
Andreas STIHL S.p.A., a leader in revolutionary technologies and innovative ideas to facilitate human work in nature, such as chainsaws and gardening tools, has become synonymous with quality over its more than 90-year history: active in 160 countries, with an Italian headquarters in Cambiago near Milan, a network of specialized dealers, and a history that began in 1926.
Efficient Material Flow
The new AutoStore system guarantees efficient performance for order fulfillment. The error rate is minimized. This is achieved through the pick-by-light system, which significantly reduces the error rate in picking, simplifies operation, and ensures smooth processes. “The process in AutoStore is precisely controlled by Swisslog’s SynQ software. We are pleased to support STIHL on the path to greater digitalization in the supply chain,” emphasizes Dr. Christian Baur, CEO of Swisslog. “Swisslog drives innovative solutions like this from our Swiss headquarters with a large software development team. Additionally, customers can rely on our extensive local implementation and service team,” Baur adds.
AutoStore Flexibly Adaptable
With changing needs, it is easy to plan future expansions: The high scalability of Swisslog’s AutoStore solution allows for easy implementation of expansions in storage volume or system performance. This is achieved, among other things, by adding robots or expanding the grid.
