20. February 2021Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has appointed Jörg Herwig as the new Chief Operating Officer Road & Rail (COO) effective March 1, 2021. He takes over the position from Matthias Magnor, who has decided to leave the company after 18 years to pursue new professional challenges. Herwig will also serve as Managing Director at Hellmann East Europe.
(Osnabrück) As of March 1, Jörg Herwig will be the new COO Road & Rail at Hellmann. He succeeds Matthias Magnor. As Chief Operating Officer and member of the Executive Board, Magnor has successfully developed the areas of land transport and rail as well as the KEP segment (Night Star Express) both nationally and transcontinentally in recent years, making a significant contribution to the company’s development.
30 years of professional experience
In addition to his role as COO Road & Rail, Jörg Herwig will also be Managing Director of Hellmann East Europe GmbH & Co. KG (HEE). Together with Patrick Nathe, he will form the two-person management team of HEE starting in March, in which Hellmann holds all shares since the beginning of this year.
Jörg Herwig has over 30 years of experience in the logistics industry: After working for Danzas and Kühne + Nagel primarily in international land transport, he joined Dachser in 2007 at the head office in Kempten, where he was responsible for business development in various European, particularly Eastern European, countries. Since 2011, Jörg Herwig has initially been responsible for the Road & Rail sector for Eastern Europe at Kühne + Nagel and subsequently at Schenker for Southeastern Europe. In the last two years, he led all land transport activities here as a member of the management, particularly the network of Schenker AG in Germany and Switzerland.
Road & Rail the strongest product segment
The Road & Rail sector already accounts for about one-third of the global corporate revenue, making it the strongest product segment at Hellmann, and is set to be sustainably developed further in the coming years together with Jörg Herwig and his international team. The goal is to expand the German and European network for general cargo and partial loads. A strategic focus is particularly on expansion in the growth market of Eastern Europe through HEE. This region not only represents an increasingly important trading partner for the EU and especially Germany but is also of central importance as a transcontinental corridor to Asia.
With the simultaneous expansion of rail and combined transport, the logistics service provider based in Osnabrück aims to contribute to climate protection and is responding to the increasing customer demands for sustainable transport concepts.
Further development of the sector
“As the board, we would like to express our sincere thanks to Matthias Magnor for his excellent work over the past 18 years at Hellmann. He has continuously expanded the Road & Rail sector as well as our KEP activities and successfully advanced the performance development in this product area. We regret that Matthias is leaving the company and wish him all the best for the future,” said Reiner Heiken, Chief Executive Officer, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.
“At the same time, we are pleased that we were able to fill the position with Jörg Herwig at such a high level. With him, we have gained a land transport expert who not only has many years of international Road & Rail experience but also brings a high level of expertise for the strategic development of the product segment. Our common goal is to further advance the topics of digitization and sustainability in the areas of land, rail, and KEP and thus continue to grow internationally in the future,” Reiner Heiken continued.
