22. February 2021The digital logistics company InstaFreight has been commissioned by the oil company Shell to transport lubricants from Germany to warehouses in other European countries. InstaFreight optimizes the transport routes by road and rail. The savings are expected to amount to around 260 tons of CO2e emissions.
(Berlin) Shell has commissioned InstaFreight to transport Shell lubricants from Germany to warehouses in other European countries. The digital logistics company optimizes transport routes by road and rail, enabling Shell to reduce CO2e emissions per transport by up to half. The resulting savings amount to over 260 tons of CO2e per year.
According to the European Commission, the transport sector is responsible for nearly a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions in Europe. InstaFreight’s mission is to support customers in reducing emissions through data-driven, sustainable logistics solutions.
Sustainability as DNA

Standardized Approach to Reporting
To carry out sustainable transports, InstaFreight creates the emissions balance based on the method of the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC), a standardized approach for calculating and reporting logistics emissions. Once this data is collected, InstaFreight analyzes the needs and requirements of the customer and offers a tailored approach to minimize transport emissions. The resulting measures include reducing empty runs as well as utilizing combined transport.
Shell’s enthusiasm for InstaFreight’s business model was already evident in 2020 through the investment of its corporate venture capital fund (Shell Ventures).
