6. March 2021HGK Logistics and Intermodal Emerges from the neska Group
6. March 2021Uwe Bäßgen, long-time head of port logistics at ROSTOCK PORT, is retiring in June 2021 and handed over the baton to his successor, Götz Strahl, on March 1, who has been employed as the sales manager at the operator of the Rostock overseas port since 2016.
(Rostock) The native of Stralsund, Uwe Bäßgen, began his port career in the early 1970s with vocational training as a port specialist with a high school diploma at the overseas port of Rostock, thus learning the port business from the ground up. After studying business administration at the University of Rostock with a focus on maritime transport, he worked at VEB Deutfracht/Seereederei Rostock as a group leader in the fleet area of “special and coastal shipping.” After the reunification, Uwe Bäßgen became the head of the TT-Line terminals in Rostock (from 1994) and Travemünde (from 1998). Since 2009, he has been responsible as head of port logistics at ROSTOCK PORT GmbH, coordinating with ferry and RoRo customers, particularly overseeing operations at the ferry and RoRo terminal, as well as acquisition, customer care, and central services.
Training is ensured
On March 1, Götz Strahl took over these responsibilities and will be supported by Uwe Bäßgen during the training period until June. The 51-year-old, born in Rügen, went to sea for the Deutsche Seereederei in the late 1980s and worked as a ship broker in the German Baltic Sea ports from the early 1990s. In the late 1990s, he successfully completed a business administration degree at the University of Rostock with a focus on transport, maritime traffic, and marketing, and subsequently worked there as a research assistant. From 2004 to 2016, Götz Strahl worked as a sales representative for the port of Wismar. The management and staff of ROSTOCK PORT GmbH thank Uwe Bäßgen for his twelve years of successful and formative work at the overseas port of Rostock and wish him and his family all the best for the future. With Götz Strahl as his successor, the continuity of positive development is ensured, and the management of the port logistics department is placed in good hands. Despite the current circumstances, there is hope to organize a farewell for Uwe Bäßgen that is commensurate with his merits.
