HICL Conference 2021 at TU Hamburg Again Fully Virtual
16. March 2021Logistics has long been a driver of digital innovation
17. March 2021At the Neu-Isenburg location near Frankfurt, the Geis Group, with the support of the IT service provider Dakosy, has digitized the dangerous goods registration for the Geis customer Siemens Healthineers within a few weeks. A key role is played by the digital dangerous goods portal INFr8 from Dakosy, which is becoming increasingly popular.
(Hamburg) The entry into the world of digitization is still cumbersome for many companies. The dangerous goods platform INFr8 offers a quick and cost-effective solution, utilizing the web interface, which can be chosen alongside EDI communication. “Our challenge was that we needed a fast and efficient digital solution for the dangerous goods registrations of Siemens Healthineers. DAKOSY had presented us their dangerous goods platform with the alternative usage options EDI and Web. An interface programming followed by testing would have been too time-consuming. With the web solution, we were able to start quickly,” explains Jochen Maul, Head of Logistics at the Geis Group, detailing the decision-making process and adds: “INFr8 now supports us with very good features, thanks to which we have been able to largely reduce documentary errors and minimize the effort required for the dangerous goods declarations.”
Many Useful Features
Features include the integration of the IATA database, which validates the associated dangerous goods data by entering the UN number, the ability to store master data, and the so-called snippets, which contain individual text modules, such as emergency contact numbers. Furthermore, Mr. Maul emphasizes that with the digitized dangerous goods declaration, the shipping label and the ADR accompanying document – including the calculation of tunnel codes and dangerous goods points – can also be generated and printed automatically. Both functions have now become essential and have significantly contributed to optimizing the processes. Siemens Healthineers confirms the efficiency gain in handling dangerous goods transports. Heiko Ansorge from Siemens Healthineers, “Head of Supply Chain Solutions for the service business,” emphasizes that the company has been able to achieve noticeably faster, safer, and more transparent processes through INFr8. “With this web-based platform, we have the assurance that in the event of an input error on the dangerous goods documents, the authorized partners at the airport can change it on the platform without much formality, thereby ensuring the departure of our urgently needed spare parts to the customer.” Looking ahead to the coming months, Geis, Siemens Healthineers, and all other users of the platform can expect further innovations. The Hamburg software house DAKOSY, provider and operator of INFr8, aims to integrate the automated creation of dangerous goods accompanying documents for sea transport (IMO) and transport by road and rail (ADR and RID) by then.
