(St. Gallen) In a digital ceremony, the winners of the Eco Performance Awards 2020 were announced. The Eco Performance Award 2020 is sponsored by an independent consortium consisting of the companies DKV Euro Service, Transporeon, Knorr-Bremse, and Continental. The Institute for Supply Chain Management at the University of St. Gallen serves as the scientific partner and initiator of the award.
Of the five nominated companies (finalists), four were honored with an award:
Park Your Truck Impresses as ‘Eco Performer Startup’
Park Your Truck GmbH impressed the expert jury with its concept of generating truck parking spaces and ensuring CO2 savings by avoiding search traffic. By the end of 2021, a total of 30,000 additional parking spaces will be created. With the help of a reservation system, the lengthy search for parking is eliminated. This saves nearly five tons of CO2 per truck annually. Another advantage for truck drivers: Parking spaces booked through Park Your Truck are safe and have good infrastructure with sanitary facilities and catering options nearby. Website Park-your-truck
Schöni Wins the Award in the SME Category
Schöni Transport AG is working towards becoming the first Swiss transport company to operate completely CO2-neutral by the end of 2023. To achieve its goals, the company is testing future technologies such as hydrogen drives. Transitional technologies like biodiesel from slaughter waste are also being used. As a result, Schöni is already significantly reducing CO2 emissions in road freight transport today. The downside: Possible failures such as engine damage must be borne by the company due to the expiration of the manufacturer’s warranty. Furthermore, Schöni is increasingly focusing on unaccompanied combined transport by road and rail. Website Schöni
Migros Prevails Among Large Companies
Avoiding, shifting, and improving form the core of the sustainability strategy of the Migros Ostschweiz cooperative. Under the motto ‘Avoiding is the most effective sustainability measure’, Migros has thoroughly revised its route planning. Better utilization and optimized route plans avoid empty trips and reduce truck kilometers. In particular, long-distance transports are being shifted to rail. In the near future, the railway will also transport sensitive and perishable goods such as rolls and flowers. Through regional promotion, Migros is also transforming the Ostschweiz region from a pure importer into a producer of sustainable, hence green energy and fuels (primarily biogas and hydrogen). Integre Trans Awarded ‘Transformer of the Year’
Today, all 500 articulated trucks of the company Integre Trans UAB already meet the EURO-6 standard and are equipped with the latest navigation and tracking systems. When acquiring new trucks, the company focuses on natural gas-powered vehicles. This significantly reduces both CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. By 2025, ten percent of the entire vehicle fleet is to be converted to natural gas.
Integre Trans also promotes the region and its employees in terms of social sustainability. The Lithuanian transport and logistics company impressed the jury with a holistic and lived sustainable corporate DNA. Website Integre Trans
