22. March 2021The Port of Stralsund (SHS) is expanding its port area and has become the owner of an expansion area of approximately 28,000 m² in the Frankenhafen. The SHS will develop this area, which is well connected to the transport modes of water, rail, and road, and aims to market it primarily to the manufacturing industry.
(Stralsund) As of March 1, 2021, the Port of Stralsund (SHS) has become the owner of a ready-to-build area in the operational section “Frankenhafen”, the potential expansion area at the traditional universal port location in Vorpommern.
The securing and binding of transshipment through production behind the quay edge and the associated generation of maritime and land-based logistics services is the main motivation for the team at the Port of Stralsund to develop the approximately 28,000 m² large area in the southern connection area of the MV Werften Stralsund facilities in the future.
Ideal Hinterland Connection
It is a true gem located directly behind berth 36, according to Managing Director Sören Jurrat, which is multimodally accessible: the location at deep-sea water is complemented by the possibility of access via inland vessels, rail, and trucks. In particular, the Port is focusing on the use of the areas by the manufacturing industry with rail-bound pre- and post-haulage of goods, for which the recently completed infrastructure project at the site, the “Rail Connection Frankenhafen” to the regional network of DB AG, has created excellent conditions.
Intensive discussions about usage are already being held with representatives from various sectors of the economy. The Port of Stralsund is ready for further innovative projects with potential partners in accordance with its strategy of sustainable symbiosis between industrial functions and efficient, environmentally friendly logistics processes.
