25. March 2021MSC Gate Bremerhaven GmbH & Co. KG has confirmed the acceptance of two new container cranes from the manufacturer Liebherr. Thus, the two cranes, which have been assembled at the Bremerhaven terminal site since autumn 2020 and were placed on the crane tracks at the quay in mid-February 2021, are now officially in operation.
(Bremerhaven) In the coming days, the commissioning and training of the operators will follow to enable the container cranes to be operational as quickly as possible.
Friedrich Stuhrmann, Managing Director of MSC Gate Bremerhaven, is pleased about this milestone: “The commissioning of the new cranes allows us to quickly adapt to the developments in the ship size of our customers in the future. At the same time, we have proven that we are ready to invest in the expansion and further development of our handling equipment for the benefit of our customers and the Bremerhaven location. Now, further important measures to maintain our competitiveness, such as the strengthening of the power quay and the adjustment of the fairway in the Outer Weser, must follow as quickly as possible. The largest ships in the world must be able to call at the local terminals with as few restrictions as possible.”
Designed for All Container Ship Classes
The new container cranes have a total height of 135 meters, a lifting height of 51.2 meters under the spreader, and an outreach of 73 meters. This allows the cranes to handle container ships with 25 container rows on deck without restrictions. With these specifications, the new container cranes are designed for all currently operational container ship classes, including the new MSC Megamax-24 class. Even with a potential further increase in ship sizes in length or width, the new cranes will be able to operate without hindrance.
