Mar 30, 2021 at 12:26 PMThe Swiss Post has decided to sell the operations of its subsidiary SecurePost AG to the internationally active Loomis Schweiz AG as of May 1, 2021. Loomis will continue to employ the 450 staff members of SecurePost AG. The parties have agreed to keep the sale price confidential.
(Bern) Since 2003, SecurePost AG has taken over the logistics of valuable goods and cash for the Post and its group companies, as well as for other customers. SecurePost is 100 percent owned by the Post and operates in a very demanding and increasingly risky environment. Its customers are primarily found in cash-intensive industries, including banks, retailers, jewelers, and also the Post itself. SecurePost does not have a basic supply mandate. The company has contributed to fulfilling the legal basic supply mandate for the Post and PostFinance. Within the group, SecurePost is a specialized unit and has particularly supplied cash to the branches of the Post and PostFinance.
Under Pressure for Several Years
The SecurePost AG has been under economic pressure for several years and has undergone a reorganization. In recent years, it has managed to stabilize its financial situation through consistent efficiency measures. Just during this phase, SecurePost has repeatedly fallen victim to brutal robberies. The consequence of this series of robberies on various cash transports, especially in Western Switzerland, has been new regulatory and insurance requirements. The situation is now further burdened by the negative effects of the Corona crisis on cash flow.
Various Options Examined to Secure Jobs
The Post therefore sees the current business model of SecurePost AG as endangered in its present configuration and has examined various options to ensure a sustainable cash supply for the group. Central to these considerations were also the 450 employees of SecurePost AG.
After careful examination, the Post has decided to source the necessary cash transports from a company operating in Switzerland and internationally. The operations of SecurePost AG will be transferred to this company. With Loomis Schweiz AG, the Post has found an established buyer in the industry who will take over and continue to employ all staff members. The operations of SecurePost are to be transferred to Loomis Schweiz AG on May 1, 2021. A consultation process will begin on March 31, 2021, during which the employees of SecurePost AG will have the opportunity to express their views on the planned measures. The sale to an internationally active company capable of operating efficiently under the higher regulatory and insurance requirements also secures a high-quality cash supply in Switzerland for the future and is therefore a forward-looking step for the employees as well. The parties have agreed to keep the sale price and purchase conditions confidential.
