(Heusenstamm/Stuttgart) Dematic automates the new Service Center Europe of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions in Stuttgart. One of the world’s leading developers, manufacturers, and suppliers of precision seals and guides has commissioned Dematic to develop the entire intralogistics solution for the new building. This includes, among other things, an AutoStore® system for the automatic storage and order picking of small parts. The compact system offers space for up to 75,000 containers and is characterized by a high storage density. On the surface, 32 robots automatically access any container when the goods inside are requested. They then transport these to one of the 26 ports. A pallet warehouse, including an automated guided vehicle (AGV) system, complements the facility. For this purpose, Dematic integrates ten automated forklifts from STILL GmbH, which, like Dematic, is also a member of the KION Group. In addition, the intralogistics specialist implements the warehouse management software SAP EWM and also installs an EWM material flow computer in this context. Construction for the new Service Center has already begun, with commissioning planned for the end of 2022.
Solutions from a Single Source
“We were awarded the contract because we offered all trades from a single source in line with our customer’s needs. This is realized through the cooperation opportunities that arise under the umbrella of the KION Group. The automated forklifts from our sister company STILL optimize the overall solution at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions,” says Jessica Heinz, Head of Marketing Dematic Central Europe. “With the introduction of SAP EWM and intralogistics automation, it is expected that the company will significantly improve its processes and achieve a high overall system performance,” Heinz adds. Also involved in the project is the consulting and planning company TMG Consultants GmbH from Stuttgart. They conducted the detailed planning for the construction, logistics, and IT trades, as well as the subsequent tendering and selection of suppliers. Furthermore, TMG will also accompany the project during its realization. The focus of the new Service Center Europe of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, one of three business areas of the Swedish plastics group Trelleborg AB, is small parts storage. To efficiently utilize the available space while achieving a high storage density, the AutoStore® system is used here. Up to 75,000 containers fit in this compact warehouse and goods-to-person piece picking system. 32 robots automatically access the units and independently transport them to the workstations where the items are picked and distributed for further processing in production or delivered to the customer. “In this process, AutoStore® not only ensures safe but also fast processes,” says Heinz.
Completed with a Conveyor System
For the new Service Center Europe, Dematic also provides a pallet warehouse with approximately 4,100 locations. An AGV takes over fast, accurate, and safe transport as well as inbound and outbound storage tasks for pallet goods. It consists of a fleet of three automated STILL narrow aisle forklifts MX-X and seven automated STILL high-lift trucks EXV. A Dematic Multishuttle with nearly 1,000 container storage locations takes over the buffering of the goods picked from the AutoStore® until final shipping, if needed. The entire intralogistics solution is completed by a conveyor system for pallets and containers that connects all subsystems. The integration of the new storage system into the IT landscape is achieved through the implementation of SAP EWM. Against this background, Dematic also installs an EWM material flow computer, which is directly connected to the PLC controls, thereby simplifying the overall system landscape.
