11. April 2021On April 15, 2021, it is ‘Logistics Day’ in Germany and Switzerland (‘Swiss Logistics Day’). Due to the Corona pandemic, this year it will again be a purely online event. More than 90 offerings from various areas of logistics are on the program. There are also contributions from Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Poland, and Ukraine.
(Bremen) Logistics is the third largest economic sector in Germany and creates the basic prerequisites for the daily supply of people, whether it is, for example, the delivery of fresh goods to supermarkets or the delivery of important medications and medical products to pharmacies and hospitals. This also applies, especially, to online commerce, which has seen strong growth, particularly since the beginning of the Corona pandemic: Compared to 2019, sales in 2020 increased by 14.6 percent to 83.2 billion euros, according to the Federal Association of E-Commerce and Mail Order Business.
Logistics is crucial for success and also influences many areas of personal everyday life: Innovative delivery concepts and suitable logistics properties ensure reliability and keep cities livable, complex returns management simplifies returns, and intelligent processes allow for individual adjustments to the ordered goods. However, most people are not aware of the logistics performance necessary for a functioning online trade. Logistics Day on April 15 is an opportunity not only to learn more about the functions of logistics and supply chain management but also about the diverse career opportunities that lie within.
Amazon with Virtual Live Tours
More than 90 offerings are currently in the program, which anyone interested can register for free. Some highlights are listed below. The events mainly come from Germany, but also from Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Poland, Switzerland, and Ukraine.
Regarding e-commerce, for example, Amazon provides insights into various logistics centers through virtual live tours. “The pandemic shows how important functioning logistics is. Logistics Day is an opportunity to make logistics tangible and at the same time promote ourselves as an employer. Due to the pandemic, we are opening our doors virtually this year. We look forward to active participation and invite all interested parties to experience the magic behind the order click,” says Armin Cossmann, Regional Director Operations at Amazon Germany. Additionally, the Swiss Post offers online insights into parcel centers.
Participation is Still Possible
Companies, organizations, and institutes are still called upon to participate with a virtual event on the action day. To support the organizers, the BVL has published a guide with “Tips for Appearing on the Virtual Stage” at www.tag-der-logistik.de/tdl-virtuell. The BVL also supports through landing pages on www.tag-der-logistik.de and spreads posts on Twitter and Facebook that are posted under the hashtag #tdl21 or #tagderlogistik. Additionally, there will be a Twitter wall and an Instagram wall on www.tag-der-logistik.de that will display all posts with the hashtags #tdl21, #tagderlogistik, and #logistikistdawoichbin.
There, all interested parties can register for free for an event of their choice or follow what is being posted on social networks on the social walls. Companies, educational institutions, associations, and organizations from the logistics business sector can publish their events and handle participant registration. To support this, documents are available in the download area that participating companies can use to prepare and conduct their event on April 15, 2021.
