12. April 2021With the automatic license plate recognition, Fraport AG simplifies entry at gates 31 and 32 for visitors to Cargo City South. This marks another step in the Fraport digitalization strategy.
(Frankfurt/Main) Airport operator Fraport today launches a new technology for automated entry into CargoCity South. At gates 31 and 32, an innovative camera system reads the license plates of visitors and checks them against the stored data. If they match, the system automatically opens the barrier. Guests must register online in advance and notify their intended passage.
“The new technology simplifies the process for our guests. They can conveniently register their visit to CargoCity South through an online portal. On-site, they can pass through the barrier after just a few seconds. This is a real time saver compared to the previous registration process,” reports Max Philipp Conrady, Head of Cargo Development at Fraport.
High-Frequency Destination
CargoCity South is particularly a high-frequency destination for customers in the freight sector. Resident companies and airport employees can pass through the barriers using their activated airport ID. Previously, visitors had to register in person at gates 31 and 32. This step is now possible online with the new process – from home or on the go. Guests register at ccs.fraport.de by providing their name, planned passage time, and corresponding license plate. As confirmation, they receive a QR code. On-site, they drive to the designated lanes. The camera recognizes the license plate. After a positive verification, the system automatically opens the barrier. If there are issues recognizing the license plate, the visitor can use the QR code as access authorization.
The new process was developed in collaboration with the software service provider Arivo. With this implementation, Fraport has added another component to its digitalization strategy. The expertise of the “Digital Factory” at Fraport was utilized for this purpose. In this virtual unit of the company, a project team of digitalization and subject matter specialists is specifically working to further enhance the digital maturity of the company: “We want to drive digital transformation along our customer processes. Our primary goal is to further optimize the service for our passengers and employees,” explains Claus Grunow, Head of Strategy and Digitalization at Fraport AG.
