Completion is planned for early 2022, with construction starting in autumn 2021.
(Unterföhring/Aurach) The logistics and fulfillment service provider Loxxess AG, Tegernsee, is expanding its capacities in the area of fulfillment. With the extension at the Fulfillment Center Aurach, Bavaria, the family-owned company is responding to the ongoing growth of online commerce. The extension will create an additional 6,000 sqm of modern storage and logistics space, and due to the increasing demand from the food and beverage segment, the extension will allow for temperature-controlled storage between exactly 6 degrees and 20 degrees Celsius. Additionally, six to eight new gates for truck access will be created, with side unloading possible. Overall, Loxxess is investing approximately 7 million euros in the new extension, which was planned by the logistics service provider itself.
“E-commerce has been booming for years without restraint, and the Corona pandemic has further fueled this growth. In 2020, online retail in Germany recorded a new high with total revenues of over 83 billion euros. Furthermore, new target groups have been gained, and the product range has been expanded to include everyday necessities. We are responding to this development by expanding our capacities at our Fulfillment Center Aurach,” says Dr. Claus-Peter Amberger, board member of Loxxess AG. “In particular, by establishing temperature-controlled zones, we are creating the conditions for taking over increasingly important fulfillment services from the food sector.”
Photovoltaics Ensure Emission-Reduced Energy Supply
In developing the new areas, Loxxess also considers sustainability aspects. In addition to an ecological construction method, a photovoltaic system ensures an emission-reduced energy supply. Furthermore, Loxxess is examining the use of a combined heat and power plant for electricity and heat generation. The new facility has an applied environmental management system according to the ISO 14001 standard.
The Loxxess location in Aurach has a total storage area of around 45,000 sqm and is centrally located between the economic regions of Nuremberg, Stuttgart, and Würzburg. Due to its proximity to the federal highways A6 and A7, the facility has excellent east-west and north-south connections. Loxxess handles a total of seven industries in the logistics center and offers value-added services in addition to fulfillment services in the area of contract and transport logistics. Besides returns management, the family business takes care of accounts receivable, order, and risk management, as well as returns processing and various customer care services.
The family business expects to complete the expansion by early 2022, with early access already possible by the end of 2021. Construction will start in autumn 2021.
