Apr 21, 2021 at 6:34 PMJaeger Bernburg uses Nexxiot technology in its railway transport company to digitize its fleet and make the use of railway vehicles more economical and ecological. The focus of the collaboration is equipping the rail-bound devices with IoT technology to ensure effective monitoring of mileage through real-time data transmission.
(Zurich/Bernburg) Since April 2020, Nexxiot has been equipping Jaeger Bernburg with its self-developed sensors, called Globehopper. The outfitting of the entire fleet was recently completed.
Christian Koch, local operations manager, explains the background of the collaboration: “Our company pursues an ambitious digitization strategy. It was important for us to rely on a system that is maintenance-free and energy-autonomous, as well as enabling precise monitoring of our fleet’s mileage. The Globehoppers from Nexxiot combine these features. The technology allows us to ensure the maintenance of our fleet according to current European regulations on vehicle maintenance, so we always have insight into which vehicle has how much operational performance. This enables us to optimize our processes and automate data evaluation.”
Saving Routes and Emissions
The Jaeger Bernburg Group, primarily active in railway construction, manages a variety of vehicles, particularly standard, secondary, and dual-purpose vehicles. The entire fleet has now been fully equipped with Globehoppers, allowing for better planning of fleet disposition. “We can allocate our vehicles to construction sites more efficiently because we always know where they are located. This saves unnecessary routes and emissions. Additionally, we support our employees in their workflows and provide them with transparent information on which they can base their decisions,” Koch further explains.
Since the founding of Nexxiot in 2015, more than 122,000 Globehoppers have been in operation, covering over 4 billion kilometers together. “Our goal is to achieve a reduction of global carbon dioxide emissions by five percent through shifting traffic from road to rail. Every kilometer saved, enabled by our technology, contributes to this goal,” says Nexxiot CEO Stefan Kalmund.
