29. April 2021The container logistics provider Contargo supports the ECTA’s call for a political framework for the decarbonization of road freight transport. Among other things, the charging infrastructure is criticized. Contargo itself plans to be CO2-neutral by 2050. Two fully electric tractors are already in operation at two locations.
(PressBox/Duisburg) As a member of the European Clean Trucking Alliance (ECTA), Contargo supports its demands for a faster transition to clean road freight transport. The container hinterland logistics network plans its decarbonization by 2050 and is already operating fully electric semi-trucks at two locations.
“Our core business is combined transport, so we only use trucks for short-distance transport due to long-distance transport on inland ships or trains. However, the national and European expansion of charging infrastructure for electric trucks is urgently needed,” says Jürgen Albersmann, Managing Director of Contargo GmbH & Co. KG. “Because only if interest and acceptance of alternative drives in the transport sector increase will manufacturers push for economic and even better solutions.”
Position Paper Contains Binding Demands
In its position paper, ECTA calls on the European Commission to set binding targets for infrastructure in all EU member states ahead of the legislative package “Fit for 55”, as only this can ensure seamless cross-border operations as well as regional deliveries.
“From my perspective, it is essential that the TEN-T core network corridors become zero-emission freight corridors, with sufficient infrastructure for charging with electricity and green hydrogen,” says Kristin Kahl, Sustainable Solutions at Contargo. “Only in this way can companies and thus the EU achieve their ambitious environmental goals.”
