May 3, 2021 at 9:28 PMThe logistics service provider Gebrüder Weiss relies on solar energy at its four locations in Nuremberg, Esslingen, Aldingen, and Lauterach in Germany and Austria. The annual electricity generation amounts to around 1,540 megawatt hours. These investments prove to be the right step towards climate neutrality.
(Nuremberg/Esslingen/Aldingen/Lauterach) The international logistics company Gebrüder Weiss has put four new photovoltaic systems for self-consumption into operation in southern Germany and Vorarlberg: These are installed at the logistics terminals in Nuremberg, Esslingen, Aldingen, and Lauterach (Vorarlberg) and together generate around 1,540 megawatt hours (MWh) of solar power annually. This corresponds to the average consumption of 385 three-person households in Austria during the same period.
“Gebrüder Weiss aims to be CO2-neutral by 2030. Equipping our locations with photovoltaic systems for solar power generation is an important step in this direction,” says Wolfram Senger-Weiss, Chairman of the Management Board of Gebrüder Weiss.
Further Systems to Follow
In the second half of the year, five more Gebrüder Weiss branches in Austria will be equipped with solar systems. By the end of 2021, the logistics company will produce a total energy of 8.4 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity at a total of 13 locations and save around 1,050 tons of CO2 annually.
The construction of photovoltaic systems is just one pillar of Gebrüder Weiss’s sustainability strategy. The logistics provider also operates its own wind farm and is advancing the testing of alternative drive technologies for its fleet. Since the beginning of the year, the first hydrogen truck has been added to the vehicle fleet of Gebrüder Weiss, which already includes several gas trucks as well as fully electric vehicles.
