6. May 2021The globally operating logistics service provider DB Schenker and FUSO, a brand of Daimler Trucks, are reducing greenhouse gas emissions on Norway’s roads, making a strong statement in the field of electromobility. In October 2020, the logistics expert and Daimler Trucks announced the extension of their pioneering partnership. 41 FUSO eCanter are set to be deployed daily in eleven European countries.
(Stuttgart/Frankfurt) The newly ordered vehicles have now been produced and have been handed over to DB Schenker since the beginning of the year. Recently in France, Finland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, and Austria. Now, the logistics service provider is strengthening its e-fleet with eight locally emission-free FUSO eCanter in Oslo. With a total of 41 eCanters, DB Schenker owns the largest e-fleet in Europe and is currently the largest e-fleet customer of FUSO.
“DB Schenker has declared 2021 as the ECO year, where environmental protection is increasingly in focus. Therefore, I am even more pleased that, together with our partner Daimler Trucks, we are getting a significant step closer to our goal of making Europe’s cities CO2-free, especially this year,” says Cyrille Bonjean, Head of Land Transport Europe at DB Schenker.
Frank Rohde, Head of Fleet Sales FUSO Europe, emphasizes: “DB Schenker impressively demonstrates with the innovative Oslo City Hub how logistics can be envisioned in the future. We are pleased to be part of this project with eight FUSO eCanter. Together with our partner DB Schenker, we prove that emission-free and quiet urban distribution is already possible today with the FUSO eCanter.”
CO2-Neutral Last-Mile Delivery
DB Schenker opened the “Oslo City Hub” in Norway’s capital in 2019, covering an area of approximately 500 m². The City Hub serves as a fully-fledged hub where all goods in the city center are distributed exclusively by electric vehicles and e-bikes. This reduces the CO2 emissions for urban goods distribution by 100 percent. With the deployment of around 40 electric vehicles, 800 deliveries can be made locally emission-free each day.
Globally, DB Schenker aims to reduce its specific greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 2006. The realization of the sustainable urban logistics concept in Oslo is an important milestone on the way to this overall goal.
More than 200 FUSO eCanter in Customer Use Worldwide
The FUSO eCanter is Daimler Trucks’ first fully electric light truck in small series. FUSO celebrated the market launch of this commercial vehicle for urban distribution in 2017. Since then, the FUSO eCanter has been deployed to numerous customers in Europe, Japan, and the USA, proving itself as a reliable, locally emission-free light truck. More than 200 vehicles are currently in daily customer use. Additionally, the global fleet of FUSO eCanter has now surpassed 3 million kilometers driven – a distance equivalent to about 75 circumnavigations of the globe.
As a pioneer in e-trucks, FUSO has the vision to accelerate electrification and locally emission-free transport in the commercial vehicle industry. In line with the sustainability strategy of Daimler Truck AG, FUSO is leading the commercial vehicle industry into the future and aims for all new vehicles in the triad (Europe, North America, and Japan) to be “tank-to-wheel” CO2-neutral by 2039. The eCanter plays a crucial role in achieving climate-neutral transport, which is being pursued by various governments in European countries and overseas.
