Geis Provides Complete Logistics Solution for Corona Rapid Tests

Efficient Supply Chain in the Fight Against Covid-19: The internationally active Geis Group takes over the complete import and distribution of Corona rapid tests and protective masks for a company from Baden-Württemberg. The Geis Air + Sea GmbH location in Kürnach near Würzburg is leading the project.

(Kürnach) In recent months, the team has already imported more than 3.5 million tests and two million masks from China to Germany and delivered them to customers – with a rising trend. The client for the imports specializes entirely in the distribution of protective equipment and Covid-19 self-tests. They are delivered to medical practices, pharmacies, Corona testing centers, and other customers who urgently need the important goods. Therefore, the project is primarily about speed and reliability.

Delivered to the Recipient in Three Days

“For the test and mask imports, we have developed a highly efficient supply chain,” says Jonas Schmuck, project manager at Geis Air + Sea. “This allows us to deliver the goods within three days from the producer in China to the end customer.” For this, Geis receives information on when and which goods can be picked up from manufacturers in Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, and Guangzhou, and where they should be delivered. Geis immediately books or charters the freight flights and commissions its Chinese partner for the pickup. After customs clearance in China, the goods head towards Amsterdam.

Geis has already transmitted the necessary data for customs clearance to the authorities at Amsterdam Airport, so that the goods can be quickly loaded on-site and brought to Kürnach. “We mainly use trucks powered by more environmentally friendly liquefied natural gas instead of diesel,” explains Jonas Schmuck. “To avoid losing valuable time, we organize the tours during truck driving bans on Sundays and public holidays with small transporters.”

Geis Also Delivers on the Same Day and Saturdays

At the transshipment terminal in Kürnach, Geis checks the goods for completeness and integrity, then they are shipped directly to the customers. For small quantities, Geis uses parcel services, for pallet goods its own groupage express services, and for large quantities and special requests, Geis delivers the goods directly to the customers. “If needed, we can also deliver on the same day or on Saturday,” says Jonas Schmuck.
