17. May 2021The intermodal service provider CargoBeamer is adding new connections from Duisburg to Poznan, with three round trips per week, as well as the domestic French route from Calais to Perpignan (two round trips) to its portfolio. In the medium term, the Calais location is expected to develop into an international logistics hub to connect intermodal traffic between the British Isles and Southern and Eastern Europe.
(Leipzig) The Leipzig logistics service provider Cargobeamer is launching two new routes. Starting in June, customers can transport semi-trailers environmentally friendly by rail on the intermodal connections between Duisburg and Poznan as well as Calais and Perpignan. The existing route of the company between Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola remains unaffected and will continue to operate at the known frequency.
There will be three round trips per week between the Duisburg port in North Rhine-Westphalia and the Polish Poznan. The route is operated in collaboration with the Duisport Group, with which Cargobeamer recently established a strategic partnership. The start date for the first trains is early June. In addition to common types of semi-trailers, P400 trailers, containers, silo trailers, refrigerated trailers, or hazardous goods can also be transported.
Launch of the First Cargobeamer Terminal in Calais
As the second new connection of the intermodal company, the route between Calais and Perpignan in France is added. This route marks the launch of the first fully-fledged Cargobeamer terminal on the market, which is currently nearing completion in Calais. In the medium term, the location in Northern France is expected to develop into an international logistics hub to connect intermodal traffic between the British Isles and Southern and Eastern Europe. The domestic French route will be offered starting June 14, initially with two weekly round trips. From July 5, the frequency will be increased to four round trips per week.
New Connections are the Next Important Step
“The new connections between Duisburg and Poznan as well as Calais and Perpignan are our next important step towards the Europe-wide network of intermodal Cargobeamer trains that we have been working on for years. Together with our partner Duisport, we are very pleased to address the Eastern European market from Duisburg for the first time. We want to focus even more on this in the future,” explains Nicolas Albrecht, Chief Business Development Officer and part of the three-member executive board team at Cargobeamer.
“In addition, with the Calais – Perpignan route, we are laying the foundation for domestic French traffic between the English Channel and the Mediterranean as well as to the Iberian Peninsula. At the same time, we are very excited about our first fully-fledged terminal in Calais, where Cargobeamer will present the advantages of its technology to the transport world in the regular market. In the medium term, we will be able to handle between six and twelve train pairs per day in record time, a milestone on the way to more environmentally friendly freight transport by rail.”
