The intralogistics specialist was awarded in the category ‘Excellence in Business to Business’ in the field of ‘Machines & Engineering’ for its micro-fulfillment solution for urban areas. The expert jury of the innovation award issued by the German Design Council was particularly impressed by the efficiency and versatility of the automation system for omni-channel distribution.
(Heusenstamm) Dematic GmbH has been awarded the German Innovation Award 2021 for its micro-fulfillment solution. The omni-channel solution impresses with its efficiency and versatility. The award ceremony will take place online due to COVID-19. It is specifically tailored to the needs of retailers with high throughput rates and automatically assembles online orders for pickup or delivery within one hour. Thanks to its compact design, it requires only about 900 square meters and can thus be installed directly at the back of a retail store or as a separate urban fulfillment center. In this way, the Dematic solution enables a fast and safe shopping experience, especially during times of COVID-19. Due to the pandemic, the award ceremony will take place online this year.
Micro-Fulfillment Solution for Urban Areas

Adaptation to Different Temperature Zones
The system consists of proven Dematic technologies such as the Dematic Multishuttle and goods-to-person picking solutions and is scalable. Specifically for the food retail sector, the micro-fulfillment solution can be adapted to different temperature zones. The order is either prepared for pickup or delivered to the customer. In addition to the proven automation systems, the Dematic software iQ is part of the solution. The system is ready for use within just twelve weeks. The expert jury highlighted not only the ‘outstanding innovative performance’ but also the efficiency and versatility in their judgment. The evaluation was based on the criteria of innovation level, user benefit, and economic efficiency. The award was initiated three years ago by the German Design Council, which has been operating as a leading global competence center for communication and knowledge transfer in design, branding, and innovation since 1953.
