25. May 2021In April, an aid transport supported by the DACHSER branch in Langenau set off on its journey to the refugee camp Kara Tepe on Lesbos. The living conditions in the camps on the Greek island of Lesbos have not improved even after the fire in the Moria camp. Approximately 8,000 people live in Kara Tepe.
(Langenau) The aid transport was loaded with urgently needed goods such as fleece blankets, pants, shoes, thermos flasks, hygiene products, solar-powered lights, and more. For DACHSER Langenau, it was a matter of the heart to support this project. The collaboration came about through the long-standing friendship with Dr. Bialas, a member of the Refugee Council Ulm/Alb-Donau-Kreis e.V., who organizes the so-called “Hope Project Lesbos”.
In cooperation with the organization Menschlichkeit-Ulm e.V., the Refugee Council has already sent the third transport to Lesbos. The aid transports are financed through the donations collected by the association. The distribution of donated goods in the camp is carried out with the help of the “Moria Corona Awareness Team” and “Stand by me Lesvos”.
Active Stabilization of Basic Supply
The association is not only engaged through aid transports but also actively participates in stabilizing the basic supply through the four warehouses rented there, advocates for the improvement of medical basic care through the organization ‘Doctors Without Borders’, and supports the active school project in the camp.
Although DACHSER Langenau is far from the immediate “on-site situation”, the colleagues were able to contribute a little to ensure that the urgently needed aid supplies reached their destination at the end of April, allowing the people on Lesbos to receive additional humanitarian assistance.
