1. June 2021The largest European logistics network, ASTRE, has established a service for general cargo distribution in Italy. The special feature of ASTRE Plus is the ability to combine general cargo and partial loads. This new offering from the Italian subsidiary of ASTRE is a premiere within the entire group. With the successful launch of the system, the efficient principle of the network is further expanded.
(Mühlheim) The Italian hybrid system is suitable for an even wider range of goods, which can now be shipped faster, whether they are food or hazardous materials. Not only can ASTRE Plus combine these as partial or full loads within the network, but the product also now offers the possibility to load individual pieces of cargo. The core of the new product is the bundling of two to twelve transport pallets that are not stacked. This guarantees safe delivery, especially for fragile or high-value goods. Additionally, the packaging standards of the recipients can be adhered to more easily. Fast unloading times provide reliable supply chains for supermarket and wholesale operators.
More than 40 partners are now integrated into the rapidly growing network. 90 percent of the regions in Italy are already covered by ASTRE Plus. Full coverage of the country is expected to be completed by 2021. In September, the establishment of a third transshipment center in Milan is also planned. The operator will be ASTRE member CTS. A proprietary hub already exists in Bologna. Meanwhile, a second hub is operated by ASTRE member SERAPIDE in Naples. Cross-border deliveries are now possible to several countries, including Germany, France, Benelux, and Ireland. Spain and Portugal will soon be integrated into the network.
ASTRE Plus has Quickly Established Itself
ASTRE Plus is based on the high standards of the European parent network. Developers from all national divisions contributed their experiences. Thus, all logistics partners of the new network meet high quality criteria, such as punctuality, safety records, and working conditions. Further improvements are made monthly with the web tool PLUS SW. The platform is currently in the final development stages and allows freight forwarders to transmit their loading plans to the hubs via the internet using the software. This improves planning and saves costs. By preventing so-called cross docking, it is ensured that loads are not unnecessarily unloaded and reloaded at the hubs.
“Continuous development and growth have characterized ASTRE for decades. We are happy to achieve another important milestone with ASTRE Plus in Italy. The rapid establishment of the new general cargo system confirms our ambition to be an innovation leader in European logistics. It is very important for us to offer our members even faster and more cost-effective transport solutions,” says Davide Napolitano, Managing Director of the ASTRE Plus network.
