Today, 120 employees work at the modern production site in Arnsberg, the same number as in the subsidiary in Schwarzenberg.
(Paderborn/Arnsberg) Under the brand ‘WESCO’, high-quality consumer goods in the areas of waste collectors, kitchen and bathroom accessories, and bread boxes have been produced for over 100 years and distributed to more than 50 countries worldwide. WESCO products, made from high-quality powder-coated or hot-dip galvanized steel sheet and stainless steel, impress with their distinctive design and high functionality. In addition to the household goods and kitchen technology range, outdoor kitchens are now also part of the program.
The furniture pieces of the ‘alumobil’ series are manufactured at the Schwarzenberg site, while the premium modules are produced on a project basis at the Arnsberg site.
Step-by-Step Update to the Latest Version
Westermann has been using the Warehouse Management System ProStore® from the Paderborn IT company TEAM GmbH at the Arnsberg site since 1997. The version at that time was updated and modernized in 2009, with functional expansions. Now, Westermann has commissioned TEAM GmbH to migrate ProStore® to the current version 10.10.
ProStore® 10 is a future-proof, modular, and browser-based application that creates optimal conditions for implementing a Logistics 4.0 concept. At Westermann, the introduction of ProStore® will take place in stages.
Starting with Warehouse Management and Inventory Control
Stage 1 covers the existing ProStore® functionalities with warehouse management and inventory control, the replenishment of picking areas, as well as other cross-sectional functionalities such as master data, evaluations, and inventory. Additionally, the integration of an existing external warehouse and a service provider, which acts as an extended workbench for Westermann & Co., will take place.
In Stage 2, the functional areas of order management, picking, packaging, and shipping will be introduced, which have previously been mapped through the existing ERP system MAPICS. From now on, individual delivery orders will be transferred from MAPICS to ProStore®.
Upgrading for Digitalization
Based on the delivery orders, the corresponding picking orders will be generated on the ProStore® side. Depending on the type of order, various picking methods such as single and multi-order picking, pick & pack, two-stage picking, and negative picking will be applied. Picking will be carried out paperless using mobile terminals based on WLAN.
Furthermore, in Stage 2, additional functionalities will be introduced with ProStore®, such as Value Added Services, reverse picking for return items, supplying production with required materials, and inventory management of cartons.
