First Large Container Ship Converted to LNG Arrives in Hamburg
7. June 2021Provadis Launches a Logistics Degree Program with BGL
7. June 2021The transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss will equip its drivers and warehouse and handling staff with a total of 3,500 new data terminals from TISLOG by the end of the year. With the hardware exchange that has been ongoing since March 2020, the traditional company is transitioning all of its mobile devices from the operating system ‘Windows CE Embedded Handheld’ to Android, preparing for the future.
(Bocholt/Lauterach) The decision to purchase followed a six-month selection and testing phase, during which employees were actively involved. The touch computer Zebra TC77 for route management in local transport and the barcode scanner Zebra MC3300 for warehouse logistics and handling were selected. The supplier is TIS GmbH, which has also developed the appropriate software with TISLOG as well as special grip and housing solutions for the hardware.
So far, over 90 percent of nearly 2,000 drivers have been equipped with the new devices. In warehouse handling, this figure stands at 1,200 deliveries compared to around 1,500 employees. The parallel operation of the two hardware generations planned until December 2021 poses no problem. The same applies to the software installed on the devices. While the new Android scanners have TISLOG mobile Enterprise, the old Windows handhelds run on the predecessor solution PSV3. TISLOG is a powerful logistics software for transport and warehousing that allows monitoring and controlling of goods flows.
Collaboration for nearly 30 years
TIS has been a telematics and hardware supplier for Gebrüder Weiss for nearly 30 years, with the collaboration being evaluated with every investment. The mobile device management developed by TIS, TISLOG MDM, enables the central and efficient organization of TISLOG mobile software. This includes configuring, distributing, securing, and analyzing. The module sets up a kiosk mode on the mobile devices, protecting the operating system from unauthorized access and manipulation.
Another argument for TIS was provided by the proprietary accessories of the TIS Plus brand, which can complement the mobile computers. For instance, the barcode scanners of type MC3300 used in the warehouse or handling are equipped with special pistol grips. Additionally, there is a housing solution developed by TIS for the location transponders.
