8. June 2021With a donation of transport and logistics services, the logistics company Gebrüder Weiss supported the charity Caritas Salzburg as part of a relief effort. Since the beginning of the pandemic, over 5,000 aid packages have been distributed to around 3,000 needy families.
(Salzburg/Lauterach) For branch manager Michael Thomsen, supporting needy children and families is an important concern. In Austria, around 500,000 people live in poverty, including about 17,000 in Salzburg alone. With the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the plight of many families has increased even further.
Since the beginning of 2020, Gebrüder Weiss Salzburg has been supporting the charity Caritas by donating logistical services. “Especially in a crisis like this, the importance of logistics becomes evident. We are particularly committed to ensuring the supply of people in need,” says Michael Thomsen, branch manager of Gebrüder Weiss Salzburg.
Free Distribution of Aid Packages
“At Caritas Salzburg, children and families who have suffered severe hardships are supported with the help of donations in kind,” adds Michael Thomsen. Transporting these and delivering them within the city and the state of Salzburg, as well as to the surrounding areas of Tyrol, is a matter of honor for the international logistics company. The aid packages were assembled into family and single packages and primarily contain non-perishable food items such as flour, pasta, rice, oil, and sugar, supplemented by canned goods like canned tomatoes, jams, coffee, cocoa, and tea. Additionally, they also include important hygiene products.
Need Can Affect Anyone
“We thank Gebrüder Weiss for the logistical support and the transport of the packages to the Salzburg and Tyrol regions. Such willingness to help makes it possible for us to assist so many people,” says Johannes Dines, director of Caritas Salzburg. Since the beginning of the crisis, over 5,000 food packages have been assembled and distributed to people in need and those at risk of poverty throughout the Archdiocese with the support of numerous companies and volunteer helpers.
