11. July 2021The German STIHL distribution center based in Dieburg is setting the course for future growth and officially puts the new logistics building and finished goods warehouse into operation. The investment volume for the new building amounts to around 26 million euros. The new warehouse offers 4,900 pallet spaces on a floor area of 7,200 m2.
(Waiblingen/Dieburg) Dr. Nikolas Stihl, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Advisory Board of STIHL, emphasized at the official inauguration ceremony on July 9, 2021: “STIHL Dieburg achieves the second-highest sales and revenue among all STIHL distribution companies and often sets standards for our global sales organization. I am firmly convinced that Dieburg will continue to contribute to maintaining and further expanding our leading market position. The course is set for this.” Heribert Benteler, Managing Director of the German distribution center, is pleased about the expansion: “With the new building, we are well positioned for further growth. Thanks to new capacities and efficient technologies, we increase the overall logistics efficiency of our location, can better meet the high demand for STIHL products, and satisfy our customers even better.”
More efficient logistics processes and high delivery capability
The new finished goods warehouse offers around 4,900 spaces for Euro pallets on a total floor area of 7,200 square meters. Ten employees work in the automated warehouse. Optimized logistical processes and new technologies such as finger scanners ensure high delivery capability. Gerhard Rheiner, who is responsible for material management, personnel, and service at the STIHL distribution center in Dieburg, explains: “The delivery to the specialized trade and our customers must be fast, complete, and reliable. With the new logistics building, we can pick and ship up to 5,000 device boxes per day in a normal shift at peak times.”

Politics welcomes STIHL’s commitment to the location
The construction of the new finished goods warehouse is the beginning of a comprehensive expansion of the distribution center. As part of the commissioning, the existing finished goods warehouse will be converted into the sole warehouse for individual parts, accessories, and forestry items. Next year, STIHL plans to start building the new distribution building and, after completion, make the corresponding adjustments in the existing office buildings. “This comprehensive expansion underscores the high importance of the location for our family business and is a clear commitment to our long-term engagement here in Dieburg,” says Dr. Nikolas Stihl. This also pleases Klaus Peter Schellhaas, District Administrator of the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, as well as Frank Haus, Mayor of the city of Dieburg, with whom the logistics building was inaugurated. “The construction of the state-of-the-art logistics building not only creates additional storage space but is also a clear commitment from the company to expand its capacities at the Dieburg location and make them future-proof. STIHL is one of the major companies in the district and also one of the engines of the regional economy. With this far-sighted investment, growth is generated and jobs are secured,” explains District Administrator and Economic Director Klaus Peter Schellhaas. “The city of Dieburg has been able to closely accompany STIHL’s expansion plans for years. The entire process has been extremely professional and cooperative from the very beginning. STIHL has once again set standards that others must measure themselves against. We are proud that STIHL continues to develop as a successful company at the Dieburg location and thank those responsible on site, as well as the board and the Stihl family for their ‘yes’ to Dieburg and look forward to further cooperation,” says Mayor Frank Haus.
STIHL Dieburg on a growth path
The STIHL distribution center in Dieburg markets STIHL products in Germany and achieved a revenue of 437 million euros in 2020. Measured by revenue, Dieburg is the largest distribution company in Europe. The current STIHL distribution center has its origins in a STIHL factory representation established in 1969 in Gundelfingen near Augsburg. In 1971, the company headquarters was relocated to Dieburg. The company has grown significantly in recent years. Since the last expansion of logistics in 2009, revenue has increased by 85 percent. A key success factor is the sale of products through specialized trade and through the STIHL-owned online shop. Photos: © STIHL
