12. July 2021Sandra Schwendner Joins Expert Team at DFI Real Estate
12. July 2021A newly established Sustainability Team at the express logistics provider trans-o-flex will be responsible for implementing a sustainability strategy. trans-o-flex can refer to above-average values in the bundling of delivery trips. Almost 100% of the electricity used comes from renewable energy sources.
(Weinheim) With the publication of its eleventh annual sustainability report, the logistics specialist trans-o-flex underscores its commitment to ESG (Environment, Social, Governance), makes its specific goals for improving CO2 efficiency transparent, and announces the launch of numerous initiatives to strengthen the sustainability culture within the company and fulfill its social responsibility. “The sustainability strategy and its implementation are central to the successful further development of our company,” says trans-o-flex CEO Wolfgang P. Albeck. He aims to give the area even more weight in the future and to establish a Sustainability Team that is directly reporting to the CEO. “We have already successfully filled the first position in the team, and more will follow.”
Every kilometer not driven improves the climate balance
Regarding the company’s climate goals, Albeck explains in the sustainability report: “In the long term, trans-o-flex plans to operate CO2-neutral by 2045 at the latest.” He sees a significant lever to achieve this goal in the strategic positioning of the company: “A key factor for efficiency gains and concrete sustainability benefits is our unique focus on selected markets and the resulting shipment consolidation. This allows us to achieve an increasingly higher density in deliveries, meaning we can reach more deliveries to the end customer with a single trip. This density is now far above the usual metrics in the KEP sector (courier, express, and parcel services).” At the same time, Albeck aims to achieve further ecological progress through continuous process improvements: “Every kilometer we do not drive also improves our climate balance. That’s why innovative tools like our AI-supported local transport planning, which allows us to deliver more shipments with fewer vehicles, make us sustainably successful.”
Customers can offset CO2 emissions
To avoid emissions, trans-o-flex has been incurring significant additional financial expenses for years and sources about 98% of the electricity used from renewable energy sources. Furthermore, trans-flex offers customers the opportunity to fully offset the CO2 emissions of their transports with the co2de green service. Other climate-effective initiatives in the core business include the introduction of reusable transport systems and plastic hygiene pallets in scheduled traffic. The plastic pallets can be used much more frequently than traditional wooden pallets, are more hygienic, lighter, and maintain their weight consistently. Wooden pallets, on the other hand, attract moisture, become heavier with each transport, and thus lead to higher transport weight and lower CO2 efficiency. With various reusable systems tailored to industry needs, trans-o-flex also offers its customers alternatives to single-use packaging, further reducing the resource consumption of transports. “Innovations like the reusable boxes that we have introduced with regard to the different packaging needs in our customer industries not only improve the climate balance of the respective logistics chain but also further enhance the safety of the goods entrusted to us,” says Albeck.
trans-o-flex recognized as a Diversity Leader for the second time
In the area of social responsibility, the sustainability report highlights the renewed recognition as a “Diversity Leader.” In 2020, trans-o-flex was again counted among the “Diversity Leaders” by a major media house out of 15,000 different companies. trans-o-flex now employs people from 62 different countries. Additionally, 25 percent of positions in middle and upper management have already been filled by women. This is a 100 percent increase compared to 2014. “We will continue on this course consistently,” says Albeck. “An open and diverse corporate culture is a central prerequisite for our sustainable business success. We are proud to already have such a diverse team today and will continue to work on showcasing the individual strengths of our employees in the future.”
Improving the environment of the locations
As part of its social engagement, trans-o-flex focuses on promoting and improving the environment of its locations. This includes supporting education, social projects, and nature conservation. Additionally, the private social engagement of employees should be recognized and encouraged. During events like the Volunteer Day Rhein-Main, volunteer trans-o-flex teams regularly engage in social projects such as the Protestant youth and disability assistance at the headquarters in Weinheim.
