14. July 2021Logistics Service Provider ITG Focuses on E-Commerce Services
14. July 2021After a long and labor-intensive acquisition process, Night Star Express partner Friedrich Zufall GmbH & Co. KG won a contract logistics and night express tender from Volvo Trucks. After several months of preparation, the start phase could begin in mid-November last year.
(Unna) Günther Harder, Operations Manager and Project Team Leader at Night Star Express in Kassel, is proud of the cross-departmental collaboration over the past two years. “Since the initial contact in response to the Volvo Trucks tender until the contract signing, we have worked hand in hand. It was very important for us to deepen the positive impressions and convince the contacts of our capabilities. The quality of our performance speaks for us and proves that we have earned their trust.” Several personal meetings took place in Germany and at Volvo locations in Belgium and Austria. The contacts were able to get an impression of Night Star Express’s efficient working methods during site visits at the main transshipment facility in Hünfeld. “The representatives of the Volvo Group were so convinced that we received the award for the second component of the night express transports,” summarizes Günther Harder the positive outcome.
Electromobility Plays a Crucial Role
Volvo Trucks is part of the Volvo Group and is a truck manufacturer based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Since the acquisition of Renault Trucks in 2001, Volvo Trucks has been the market leader for commercial vehicles in Europe. On February 20, 1928, Swedish newspapers reported on the first Volvo truck. It had a payload of around one and a half tons. Initially, the production of commercial vehicles near Gothenburg was intended only as a counterbalance to losses in the automotive sector, but it developed into an important business area in the 1930s. Trucks became a fixed part of the model range, and Volvo became the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in Sweden. The company set standards in quality, safety, and environmental protection. Today, electromobility plays a crucial role.
Processes Successfully Coordinated and Timed
After a pilot phase, the full shipment volume has been handled by Night Star Express since January 11 of this year. The late pickup times and processes have been successfully coordinated and timed. Shipments are picked up in the evening as usual and delivered to the recipient by 8 a.m. at the latest. Around 160 Volvo and Renault service partners, dealers, and workshops receive their required spare parts through couriers from Night Star Express. Delivery takes place at pre-arranged depots on-site. “Volvo confirms the smooth operation and is – like us – very happy with our performance,” says Günther Harder. “99.8 percent is the confirmation from Volvo in the weekly quality assessment. We look forward to a long collaboration with Volvo Trucks and the service partners!”. Photo: © Night Star Express/Mike Mareen stock.adobe.com
