15. July 2021Gruber Logistics from Bolzano, Italy, is acquiring 60 new Cargo Coil Rail trailers from Kögel, which will be used in combined transport. An additional 20 Kögel Mega trailers of the NOVUM generation will support Gruber’s fleet in transport tasks with high loading volumes. Intermodal vehicles allow for the utilization of the respective strengths of different transport modes.
(Burtenbach/Bolzano) The logistics and transport service provider Gruber Logistics takes social and environmental responsibility seriously. This includes, in their own understanding, caring equally for people and the environment. A fundamental part of the company’s sustainability strategy, headquartered in Ora near Bolzano (South Tyrol), is an innovative and environmentally friendly fleet. In addition to 500 Euro-6 tractors, about 100 of which are operated climate-neutrally with bio-LNG, more than 1,000 towed units are in operation. Many of these are equipped for use in combined transport, which Gruber Logistics considers the basis for environmentally friendly goods distribution. Already, 20 percent of all shipments organized by Gruber Logistics are intermodal. The goal is to achieve a share of 40 percent within two years. “We can only achieve this with the appropriate transport equipment,” says Stefan Knapp, Head of International Fleet.
Multitalents in Combined Transport
Gruber Logistics has now procured these from Kögel. The transport service provider has purchased 60 units of the Cargo Coil Rail series of the NOVUM generation from the traditional manufacturer in Burtenbach. The trailers equipped for combined transport combine economy and ecology in line with customer needs and the company motto of Kögel, ‘Economy meets Ecology – Because we care.’ They will contribute significantly to Gruber Logistics achieving its ambitious sustainability goals. Kögel Cargo Coil Rail trailers are true multitalents in intermodal freight transport. They feature all the advantages of the NOVUM vehicle generation, including a high degree of customization, extensive standard equipment, and low tare weight. Additionally, the vehicle is well-suited for transporting heavy point loads due to its coil transport equipment. Load weights of up to 30 tons can be applied over 1.5 meters. Gruber uses a coil trough with a length of 7,200 millimeters for coils with diameters ranging from 900 to 2,100 millimeters. An optional version with a length of 9,000 millimeters is also available.
Four Meter Corner Height Not Exceeded
Furthermore, the logistics service provider has received 20 Kögel Mega trailers of the NOVUM generation. The Mega – perfect height maintains the permissible total height of four meters despite an interior height of three meters, with a fifth wheel height of 910 millimeters, making it the volume specialist from Kögel. To optimize height, Kögel’s designers have implemented an intelligent combination of tire selection and a reduction of the saddle neck from 90 to 55 millimeters – all while maintaining stability! High payloads are guaranteed with a tare weight starting from 6.4 tons, thus ensuring optimized efficiency. Loading and unloading of three stacked mesh boxes is easily possible thanks to the mechanically-hydraulic roof that comes as standard equipment. “As fleet managers, it is our task to offer our clients the most advanced transport solutions. Trailers like those manufactured by Kögel meet this requirement,” explains Stefan Knapp. “Intermodality, along with the use of alternative fuels, is part of our green strategy. The combination of both achieves excellent results!” explains advisory board member Martin Neese.
Bio-LNG Vehicles Also in Use
Gruber Logistics is one of the first transport companies in Europe to have organized a fully CO2-neutral multimodal transport. Additionally, the company recently launched climate-neutral goods transport over the Brenner Pass with bio-LNG trucks for its customers, placing it in a leading position in sustainable goods transport. As part of these new service offerings, Kögel’s innovative trailers perfectly support Gruber Logistics’ growth ambitions. Further acquisitions for the logistics fleet are already in planning.
