16. July 2021The Dr.Max Group, the largest pharmacy chain in Eastern and Central Europe, has commissioned SSI SCHÄFER to equip the new distribution center in Bucharest, Romania. The partially automated intralogistics solution to be installed is intended to handle both B2B and B2C business from a single warehouse, reflecting the company’s strong growth and future development plans.
(Neunkirchen/Bucharest) The Dr.Max Group operates a network of over 2,000 pharmacies in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Italy, Slovakia, and Romania. In Romania, A&D Pharma, part of the Dr.Max Group, operates in two business areas: Mediplus and Sensiblu. The new distribution center in Bucharest will supply pharmacies and hospitals in the future and replenish regional warehouses. At the same time, Dr.Max is creating new logistics structures to significantly expand its e-commerce business and manage it from the same warehouse. “The goal is for all products in the warehouse to be available for both business segments and to ensure high productivity by utilizing all existing synergies,” says Miguel Martins da Silva, Group Supply Chain Officer at Dr.Max.
Same Solution Already in Prague
To meet these requirements, SSI SCHÄFER is implementing a sustainable logistics solution that efficiently handles the large number of SKUs (Stock Keeping Units) with fluctuating order structures for multiple channels – all while ensuring the shortest lead times for same-day or next-day delivery. “SSI SCHÄFER has already implemented a comparable facility for Dr.Max in Prague and has impressed with a complete solution from a single source,” says Miguel Martins da Silva. “For this reason, we are continuing our successful collaboration in Bucharest.” The supply and service scope of the intralogistics specialist includes not only the automation solution with state-of-the-art technology but also the in-house developed logistics software WAMAS® for coordinating material flow movements.
Expandable for Future Requirements
The new distribution center is designed to be flexibly expandable for future developments. Installation work will begin in the fourth quarter of 2021, with commissioning scheduled for the end of 2022. “With the new omnichannel warehouse, we are able to meet the high quality requirements for both the pharmaceutical wholesale and e-commerce sectors beyond just fast order processing. With SSI SCHÄFER as our partner, we are equipped for a gradual automation and modernization of our distribution network in Europe,” says Miguel Martins da Silva. Photo: © SSI Schäfer
