19. July 2021After the dramatic social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic – particularly in the second quarter of 2020 – there was a recovery in the economic activities of many customer groups in the first six months of 2021. However, the business performance of Austrian Post was also affected by various restrictions this year.
(Vienna) After a tough five-week lockdown in the first quarter, there was a gradual reopening of various areas of public and social life starting in the second quarter of the current year. Following pandemic-related additional revenues in the first quarter, a certain normalization was observed in the second quarter of 2021. In the parcel sector, after high increases in the previous year’s quarter, a weakened growth was recorded. The decline in letter volumes continued, following an increased reduction in the previous year now at a lower level.
The revenue of Austrian Post increased by 28.4% to EUR 1,260 million in the first six months of 2021, according to preliminary figures. This was also contributed to by the fully consolidated Turkish company Aras Kargo since August 25, 2020, with around EUR 160 million. The revenue increase excluding Aras Kargo is thus 12.0%. The revenues of Austrian Post consist of the Mail & Advertising division with EUR 608 million (+3.0%), the Parcel & Logistics division with EUR 628 million (+70.7%; +27.0% excluding Aras Kargo), and the Branch & Bank division with EUR 34 million (+18.9%).
Expected Annual Profit 20% Above Previous Year
In the first half of 2021, an earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of EUR 103 million is expected. Based on the severely impacted first half of 2020 due to massive COVID-19 effects, this represents a doubling of the result.
For the current financial year, the company aims for an improvement in results of at least 20% above the previous year’s level (Base EBIT 2020: EUR 161 million). The comprehensive report for the first half of 2021 will be published on August 12, 2021.
