19. July 2021DHL Express becomes the official partner of the Copenhagen 2021 WorldPride and EuroGames. The motto of Copenhagen 2021 is #YouAreIncluded. This strong, inclusive statement emphasizes that everyone is part of society, regardless of gender, ethnic and national origin, skin color, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, as well as identity and other legally protected characteristics.
(Bonn/Copenhagen) In addition to WorldPride, the EuroGames, an inclusive sports competition for the LGBT+ community, will also begin on August 16. Athletes will compete in 22 sports. The goal of both events is to raise awareness and acceptance of the living situation of the LGBT+ community and to make a statement against discrimination. In this sense, the events embody the same values as DHL with its corporate purpose “Connecting people. Improving lives.”
“We are proud of the partnership with Copenhagen 2021 WorldPride. Achieving diversity, equal opportunities, and inclusion is one of the most important tasks of our modern society,” says John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express. “Living diversity and promoting inclusion is part of our company’s DNA, and unity and acceptance are a central strength of our global network. In our company, no one should have to hide because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We accept all employees as they are and want the best working conditions for everyone – without exception. As a global leader, we see it as our responsibility to commit strongly to this and to continue promoting the topic in society. That is why it is firmly anchored in our strategy.
WorldPride Promotes Equal Opportunities
Copenhagen 2021 connects the events WorldPride and EuroGames. WorldPride celebrates inclusivity and love and promotes equal opportunities, art, and human rights through parades, festivals, and other cultural activities. With thousands of visitors, the event is the largest Pride event in the world in 2021. The EuroGames are a sports event featuring tournaments, a public program, a Sports Leader Conference, and a sports village. The sports program is also designed for maximum inclusivity. It is open to both athletes who have trained for years and those who simply want to participate.
“As a truly global event, Copenhagen 2021 WorldPride and EuroGames is excited about the partnership with a truly global brand like DHL,” says Benjamin Hansen, Executive Managing Director of Copenhagen 2021. “We offer activities for thousands of people in Copenhagen and Malmö while also providing a digital program for millions of people for a global audience.”
Longstanding Commitment to Diversity
DHL Express has long been committed to diversity, equal opportunities, and inclusion. The company implements many initiatives and activities that address various aspects of diversity, such as gender, ethnic and national origin, skin color, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation and identity, or other legally protected characteristics. These range from training and workshops to Employee Resource Groups like the Rainbownet, a network for employees of the company who belong to the LGBT+ community or engage as allies, pocket guides on LGBT+ topics, as well as the refugee initiative and collaborative projects within the corporate program GoTeach, which supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds on their career paths.
DHL’s commitment is also positively recognized through external awards. All business areas of the group have already been certified as Top Employers. In addition, DHL Express was named the second-best employer in the world by Great Place to Work 2021. Deutsche Post DHL Group is also a founding member of the PrOut@Work Foundation. The foundation aims to make awareness of the LGBT+ community in the workplace visible and tangible.
