21. July 2021The consulting company Gomultimodal, specialized in combined freight transport, is developing a web platform for the private trade of emission certificates in the transport and logistics sector. moovment aims to shape the transport transition in Germany and Europe and to promote the establishment of efficient connections in rail freight transport.
(Hamburg) The idea for moovment was developed by founder Christian Wutke in close coordination with experts and potential users from the logistics industry. Gomultimodal is taking over the concept in the proof of concept phase. Together with partners, the entire process for a volume of up to 100 tons of avoided CO2 transport emissions will be tested in the coming weeks. The web platform is expected to go live by the first quarter of 2022.
moovment is intended to enable companies that want to compensate for their logistics emissions, which are difficult or costly to avoid, to purchase CO2 certificates via the web platform. By monetizing these CO2 emissions, moovment can financially support carriers in Germany and Europe in shifting transport from road to rail, thereby accelerating the transport transition in freight transport. To this end, moovment identifies suitable transports based on the traffic data provided by interested parties and defined criteria. Gerhard Oswald, managing partner of Gomultimodal GmbH, sees moovment as a concept whose impact works directly in the same industry compared to traditional climate protection projects and contributes to the growth of the sustainable transport market in the long term: “moovment is a win for many players in logistics. The potential to shift transport from road to rail is enormous. moovment helps to establish and expand sustainable and competitive connections in rail freight transport, especially for door-to-door transport.”
Data collection tool for transport shift analysis
Christian Wutke is the founder of various startups and specializes in developing sustainable business concepts in the early stages. With a large network and deep rail know-how, Gomultimodal is the perfect company for him to quickly scale the concept. The collaboration began as part of the ‘Ready for Rail’ campaign, which Gomultimodal introduced to the market in October 2020 and consists of three consulting modules for implementing combined transport. The centerpiece of the campaign is the data collection tool for transport shift analysis (https://datenerhebung.readyforrail.com). “The anonymized transport data that we collect, especially during the free consultation for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), provides the basis for moovment to identify transportable traffic,” says Oswald. During the proof of concept phase, Gomultimodal ensures in dialogue with interested parties, potential users, and pilot customers that moovment takes into account the different needs on the customer and user side and meets market demands.
Aiming for certification according to ‘Gold Standard’
The planned web platform for calculating and compensating logistics emissions is intended to integrate seamlessly into the IT processes on the customer side. Thus, traffic data from various transport management systems will be used for automated emission calculations. The accounting of transport emissions is carried out according to the standard for calculating logistics emissions EN16258. “With the go-live of the web platform, certification with the ‘Gold Standard’ is also being pursued. We want to offer customers a climate protection project with moovment that demonstrably leads to the reduction of greenhouse gases and can be positively integrated into the sustainability strategy,” says Oswald. The website www.moovment.de provides an initial impression of the concept and processes.
