This makes the long-standing collaboration between partners greener. Alternative drives are part of Gebrüder Weiss’s sustainability strategy.
(Vienna/Lauterach) Efficient and sustainable transport solutions are central concerns for the logistics provider Gebrüder Weiss, which are now being consistently implemented as part of its own sustainability strategy in Central and Eastern Europe. Since the beginning of June 2021, Gebrüder Weiss has been transporting technical equipment for the computer and printer manufacturer HP with an electric truck. This is already the second zero-emission vehicle in the logistics provider’s fleet. Compared to a conventional diesel engine, the model from the manufacturer MAN saves around 50 tons of CO2 annually. The truck has a range of up to 150 kilometers per battery charge and supplies the electronics wholesale market daily.
“By using the electric truck for the delivery of our products, we are taking an important step towards a more sustainable, climate-neutral supply chain with Gebrüder Weiss. Our long-standing partner Gebrüder Weiss supports us with its high logistics expertise and also sets important accents in emissions reduction in our European business,” says Michael Smetana, Managing Director Austria at HP.
Cooperation for a quarter of a century
Gebrüder Weiss has been working for HP since 1996 and manages numerous supply chains in Europe as a classic freight forwarder as well as a so-called Lead Logistics Provider. This is done partly under its own flag and also includes the management of other service providers. More than one-tenth of the transports are handled across transport modes for a better ecological balance.
Alternative drive ideas for more sustainability
Gebrüder Weiss has already successfully tested the practicality of the technology with its first electric truck over several years in the Vienna metropolitan area. With the second electric vehicle, Gebrüder Weiss is taking another step towards integrating sustainable drive forms within the supply chains. In addition to fully electric trucks that are charged with green electricity, the logistics provider also operates a hydrogen-powered model and several natural gas trucks. These and other initiatives support Gebrüder Weiss’s goal of operating climate-neutral by 2030.
