5. August 2021FUSO, the Japanese subsidiary of Daimler Trucks and one of the leading commercial vehicle manufacturers in Asia, announces the launch of the new FUSO Canter light truck in Europe. The new model impresses with a modern, redesigned cabin, enhanced safety, and improved comfort. Starting in August 2021, the new FUSO Canter will be available for order through the FUSO dealer network across Europe.
(Stuttgart/Tokyo) The FUSO Canter has been an international best-seller among light trucks for decades, thanks to its smallest turning radius in its class, high payload capacity, and versatility. Since its market launch in 1963, over 4.5 million FUSO Canters have been produced worldwide. Like its predecessor, the new FUSO Canter is available in five weight classes (3.5t to 8.55t), with six wheelbases (2,500 mm to 4,750 mm), three powerful engines (130 to 175 hp), and three cabin variants (Standard (1.7m width), Comfort (2.0m), and Double Cab (2.0m)). New is that FUSO now also offers the 3.5t Canter with S-cabin in all right-hand drive markets and improves body compatibility with a new wheelbase of 3,400 mm for the 3S models. With a newly developed compact exhaust system, the new FUSO Canter also meets the EURO VI – STEP E emissions standard.
Advanced Design
The new Canter features a redesigned front that combines traditional design elements with a modern form language, harmonizing the form and functionality of a robust light truck. The enhancement of the cabin exterior also reflects FUSO’s so-called “Black Belt” design identity, which serves as a guiding motif throughout the designs of the other vehicles of the Japanese brand. The sleek lines of the vehicle cabin integrate modern LED headlights (available as an option) and represent both a technological and conceptual update after ten years.
Increased Safety
The new Canter can now also be ordered with the Sideguard Assist® safety system. The turning assistant warns of moving objects and stationary obstacles on the passenger side of the truck using radar sensors. It supports the driver and warns as soon as it detects a collision risk when the driver steers towards the passenger side or activates the turn signal on the passenger side. In addition to the safety systems already included in the predecessor model, such as the Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), the Canter is safer than ever with the newly installed Sideguard Assist. Additional safety is provided by the optional LED headlights with 30% improved visibility, a new autolight function, and reinforced rear underrun protection that minimizes impact in the event of an accident.
Improved Comfort
Over the past decades, FUSO has continuously improved its light truck to meet customer needs. Thanks to improved sound insulation, the new Canter impresses with an impressively low interior noise level. The spacious cabin with good all-round visibility also allows the driver to maneuver easily in the city. The low entry height and comfortable passage of the Canter are designed to better support truck drivers – especially in distribution traffic.
This new edition of the Canter aims to bring a new level of quality and efficiency to European roads with its modern cabin design, increased safety, and improved comfort. Production at the European FUSO plant in Tramagal, Portugal, is scheduled to start in December 2021.
