30. August 2021Automotive Industry and Logistics Discuss the Future
30. August 2021The Lübeck Port Company (LHG) and the Port of Lübeck are becoming even more closely connected to the Ruhr area. The operator Kombiverkehr KG has recently offered an additional daily connection between the Ruhr area and Lübeck. In addition to eleven departures to and from Duisburg, Herne is now also served with five departures in both directions.
(Lübeck) Frankfurt’s Kombiverkehr KG is responding to the increasing volumes at the terminals of the Lübeck Port Company (LHG). Recently, the combined transport provider has offered another daily connection between the Ruhr area and the Baltic Sea. The new service between Lübeck and Herne complements the route Lübeck – Duisburg, which, with eleven departures per week in each direction, is a magnet for freight forwarders.
On the Lübeck side, Baltic Rail Gate, a subsidiary of Kombiverkehr and LHG, ensures smooth operations. The intermodal terminal handles around 50 trains per week for loading and unloading. “We are pleased that our network is enriched by another destination. This allows us to be even better connected to the Ruhr area,” said Antje Falk, Managing Director of Baltic Rail Gate.
Already a Very Popular Connection
The new Herne connection is very popular; the slots are very well booked from week to week. European Cargo Logistics (ECL), the intermodal subsidiary of LHG, also benefits from this. Together with Kombiverkehr, it operates the Lübeck – Duisburg line and now has more flexibility to meet the strong demand from its customers towards the Ruhr area.
