(Munich) Amazon continues to invest in Germany and create new jobs. The company plans to build eight new logistics buildings in Germany by the first half of 2022. The new logistics locations are in Dummerstorf (Logistics Center, 2022), Erding (Sorting Center, 2022), Friedrichsdorf (Distribution Center, 2021), Helmstedt (Logistics Center, 2022), Hof/Gattendorf (Logistics Center, 2022), Neu-Ulm (Distribution Center, 2021), Weiterstadt (Distribution Center, 2022), and Wenden (Distribution Center, 2021).
Amazon has already introduced a starting wage of 12.00 euros gross per hour, which has been a reality since July for most Amazon employees, regardless of whether they are full-time, part-time, temporary, or seasonal. Amazon offers comprehensive benefits from day one, all in a modern and safe working environment. After 24 months, employees earn an average of around 2,750 euros gross per month, including restricted stock units from Amazon.com, Inc. and other perks. Part of the benefits is also the “Career Choice” program, where up to 95 percent of course fees and literature costs for recognized training courses are covered by Amazon, up to a maximum of 8,000 euros per employee.
Amazon also compensates its delivery partners accordingly, enabling them to pay their employees well and provide a first-class work experience.
3,000 New Logistics Jobs to Be Created Soon
Stefano Perego, Vice President of Customer Fulfillment in Europe, explains: “In the last 12 months alone, we have created more than 3,000 permanent jobs in logistics in Germany. Now, more than 3,000 additional jobs will be added next year. These jobs support communities of all sizes, from larger cities like Hof/Gattendorf to smaller places like Dummerstorf. As a company, we are constantly working to improve, listening to what our employees care about, and striving to be the best employer in the world.”
Kathleen Kühnhold started at the new Amazon logistics center in Gera at the end of June 2021. She says: “I love the open and trusting interaction with my colleagues and their exciting cultural backgrounds. Currently, I am supporting the hiring process for shipping employees and have already recommended some of my friends for a job here.”
40 Billion Euros Invested in Germany
According to the independent consulting and economic analysis institute Keystone, Amazon invested nearly 40 billion euros in Germany from 2010 to 2020, with over 10 billion euros invested in 2020 alone. The number of permanent employees in the country is expected to rise to over 28,000 by the end of the year across all business areas, employed at around 60 locations nationwide. Over 19,000 permanent employees work solely in the German Amazon logistics network.
Amazon continues to expand its German logistics network to meet customer demand and broaden product selection. Additionally, Amazon supports a growing number of independent German entrepreneurs who sell on Amazon and utilize storage and delivery through “Fulfillment by Amazon.”
Communities Welcome Establishment and Jobs
Axel Wiechmann, Mayor of Dummerstorf, where Amazon will open a new logistics center, adds: “We are very pleased that Amazon is coming to Dummerstorf. The establishment is a great gain for the entire region, as 1,000 new jobs will be created in a state-of-the-art environment all at once. This presents great career opportunities for the people in the region. Local merchants and citizens who sell on or order from Amazon will also benefit from this.”
In the months leading up to the commissioning of the new buildings, Amazon will fill a variety of positions, including in logistics and shipping, recruiting, technology, human resources, health and safety, and IT.
