The express service provider trans-o-flex plans to go public
18. September 2021The Austrian Post has expanded its logistics center in Wolfurt, Vorarlberg, due to the significantly increasing parcel volume. The expansion was initiated in the presence of local politicians. The capacity in Wolfurt is set to be increased to 8,000 parcels per hour. Additionally, 40 new jobs will be created, bringing the total to 160 employees.
(Wien/Wolfurt) Due to the sharply rising parcel volumes, Österreichische Post AG is expanding its logistics infrastructure, with over 500 million euros being invested in the coming years for the expansion of logistics centers and post bases. A significant milestone for western Austria was reached today in Vorarlberg, where the Post ceremoniously opened the expansion of the logistics center in Wolfurt together with Dr. Barbara Schöbi-Fink, Deputy Governor of Vorarlberg, Angelika Moosbrugger, Deputy Mayor of Wolfurt, and DI Dr. Georg Pölzl, General Director of Österreichische Post AG.
“As a highly export-oriented and competitive business location, Vorarlberg is one of the most efficient regions in Europe. This is clearly reflected in the positive economic development. I am pleased that the Post has expanded the logistics center in Vorarlberg into an important location for western Austria and congratulate all those involved. The expansion of the postal logistics center in Wolfurt is a win for the labor market, local businesses, and the population,” said Vorarlberg Deputy Governor Dr. Barbara Schöbi-Fink.
The Expansion is a Commitment to the Location
“In the exceptional year of 2020, we recorded a 30 percent increase in parcel volumes, and in the future, we will continue to transport more and more parcels each year. To ensure high quality in our services, we are making significant investments in our infrastructure. The Vorarlberg logistics center is an important expansion stage, with which we have not only increased the sorting capacity at the site to 8,000 parcels per hour but also created 40 new jobs,” said Post General Director DI Dr. Georg Pölzl.
“The new logistics center is a commitment to the entire region and not only ensures reliable parcel service but also creates new jobs. We are pleased that the Post has set high architectural standards for its implementation. An ambitious exterior and green space concept meets the design objectives at this attractive commercial location. I would like to express my gratitude for the commitment and constructive discussions regarding the provision of the necessary areas for future infrastructure measures, which will significantly contribute to improving the traffic situation,” said Wolfurt Mayor Christian Natter.
Modern, Compact, and Sustainable
The construction work, which lasted one and a half years, took place during ongoing operations and in very limited space. With the expansion of the logistics center, the sorting capacity was significantly increased from around 5,000 parcels to 8,000 parcels per hour. This has also created 40 new jobs, and in the future, nearly 160 employees will work at the site, including 70 in the parcel delivery base. The investment volume for the expansion amounts to 27 million euros.
Despite the compact conditions in the industrial area, sustainability and environmental protection were also a focus for the Post: The expansion was implemented in a space-saving manner and without further sealing of the ground. By constructing an underground garage with 111 parking spaces for cars and additional parking options for bicycles, these areas could be relocated underground, upon which the expansion was built. A new photovoltaic system with a capacity of 360 kilowatts peak was installed on the roof of the logistics center. The outdoor areas were designed in an environmentally friendly, sustainable, and ecological manner by landscape architects and gardeners. This creates a positive effect for the climate, wildlife, and plants, and not least for the employees.
In 2022, the facade of the administrative building will be renewed
The Vorarlberg logistics center in Wolfurt is technically state-of-the-art with the expansion and is among the most modern locations of the Austrian Post. Minor construction works will follow in 2022 when the facade of the administrative building will be renewed.
