22. September 2021The Kombiverkehr KG is further expanding its service offering on the Mediterranean route for traffic to Spain. As of today, a new fourth round trip per week and direction is being established for customers from freight forwarding and logistics on the connection between Ludwigshafen and Barcelona Morrot. There are connections to the gateways Duisburg and Lehrte.
(Frankfurt/Main) The newly created capacities are intended to benefit not only tank containers but especially semi-trailers. “The trailer trend is unbroken. We expect a continuously increasing number of semi-trailers to be transported environmentally friendly by rail, and therefore we are timely adjusting our offering on this corridor, which is so important for the transport industry,” explains Managing Director Alexander Ochs. “Not only with new train departures but also with the increased use of T3000 mega-trailer double-pocket wagons for semi-trailers with three meters of clear internal height, we are expanding the capacity for trailer transport by more than 30 percent.”
An additional train departure to Barcelona is offered every Tuesday from the Kombi terminal in Ludwigshafen, and in the opposite direction on Thursdays from Barcelona Morrot to Ludwigshafen. The cut-off time for trailers, containers, and swap bodies is at both shipping terminals at 8:00 PM. On the over 1200-kilometer route, nearly two tons of CO2 are emitted less per loading unit at a loading weight of 25 tons compared to continuous road traffic.
Shippers Save More Than 80 Percent of Air Pollutants
This allows freight forwarders and the shipping industry to save more than 80 percent of air pollutants. Further gateway traffic is offered by the Frankfurt intermodal operator from Ludwigshafen in a one-stop-shop procedure to the north and northwest. “By connecting Ludwigshafen to the Gateway Hub Duisburg Ruhrort Port, the innovative rapid transshipment facility in Hannover Lehrte, and to Moerdijk in the Netherlands, we offer a variety of fast forwarding options, especially in traffic with Scandinavia and the Baltic States. Sweden, Finland, and Lithuania are continuously accessible by rail and ferry from Spain with Kombiverkehr and the ferry services of our shipping line partners,” says Ochs.
