23. September 2021The supply chain execution specialist Zetes has equipped over 2,200 retail locations of the Swiss Coop Group with mobile computers. The devices include 10,000 Zebra PS20 personal shoppers for customers, as well as 13,500 Datalogic Memor 20 handhelds for employees in the retail locations. The goal was to replace old generations of devices previously supplied by Zetes to ensure smooth operations in the stores.
(Volketswil) The Coop cooperative is one of the largest retail and wholesale companies in Switzerland. It is organized as a cooperative with around 2.5 million members. With nearly 91,000 employees, the Coop Group generated total sales of 30.2 billion Swiss francs in 2020. Zetes has been Coop’s hardware partner since 2009 and had already delivered the previous solutions, which are now being gradually replaced by the new terminals.
The Datalogic handhelds in smartphone format are intended for sales staff in supermarkets, allowing them to accurately manage stock levels on shelves and in the warehouse. The full-touch handhelds with the Android operating system feature a powerful 2D megapixel scan engine that can quickly scan all product barcodes. This enables employees to instantly access current stock levels in real-time and make corrections as needed.
The Zebra PS20 personal shoppers serve as personal assistants for supermarket customers. With the compact devices, barcodes of desired items can be automatically scanned while being placed in the shopping cart. The shopper does not need to be removed from the holder attached to the shopping cart. The Android devices come with interactive apps that display additional product information or suitable shopping recommendations.
Complete handling and staging for five years
As part of service contracts, Zetes will handle the complete management and staging of all devices for five years, ensuring that the hardware always has the latest operating system and firmware versions. For the Datalogic mobile computers, Coop also utilizes the Zetes Total Care service platform, a web-based solution for managing mobile devices, including maintenance and repair.
“The smooth and precise rollout of the 13,500 Memor handhelds as well as the simultaneous delivery of the 10,000 PS20 impressed me,” explains August Harder, who is responsible for the IT department at Coop Switzerland. He particularly appreciates that “Zetes was able to deliver the new Datalogic Memor 20 mobile computer in large quantities, even though it was only introduced shortly before the project started.”
