The company’s retail network includes more than 4,000 stores. Dematic is implementing an AutoStore system in Benetton’s logistics facilities.
(Heusenstamm/ Cernusco sul Naviglio) At the end of 2022, Dematic will implement a solution with an AutoStore system in the logistics facilities of the Benetton Group in Villorba, Treviso, in northeastern Italy. According to the specifications, the solution aims to enhance the company’s e-commerce sales by optimizing storage capacity and order processing.
The goal of the Benetton Group is also to make order picking more efficient, flexible, and agile by reducing the required space, decreasing picking times, and extending the lifespan of the logistics facilities. Flavio Este, Managing Director of Dematic Italy, comments on the project: “As an automation expert, we are pleased to work with such a forward-looking customer and hope to have laid the foundation for a strong partnership.”
Achieving E-Commerce Goals
Rosario Filomena, Sales Manager at Dematic Italy, who was responsible for the negotiations, adds: “The Benetton Group will be able to meet its e-commerce goals with this scalable solution, including AutoStore, as well as a very compact, easily expandable high-performance storage system with minimal energy consumption and a high level of safety.”
Valentino Soldan, Logistics Manager at the Benetton Group, explains: “We chose Dematic because we wanted a partner with relevant experience in the e-commerce sector and a strong international background. We are firmly convinced that the AutoStore-based Dematic solution will optimally meet our requirements. Furthermore, we are confident that we will be able to thrive in an increasingly complex market with a structured and technologically advanced solution that will support our development for years to come.”
Order Picking with 53 Mobile Robots
The entire operation is controlled and managed with Dematic software. The integrated AutoStore system will include 60,000 containers. Orders will be picked by 53 mobile robots that move above the storage units and are lowered into them to access the containers with the requested items. The robots then transport the items to one of 12 picking stations, where they are assembled for further processing. Previously, employees of the Benetton Group had to cover long distances to pick individual items.
