29. September 2021As part of a new cooperation, the logistics company METRO LOGISTICS will take over the handling of bulky and heavy goods for DHL’s two-man handling at the METRO LOGISTICS warehouse location in Reichenbach. The expansion of capacities is due to the rapidly growing shipment volumes in the e-commerce sector for bulky goods.
(Bonn/Düsseldorf) As part of a new cooperation, the logistics company METRO LOGISTICS will now take over the handling of bulky and heavy goods for DHL’s two-man handling at the METRO LOGISTICS warehouse location in Reichenbach, Thuringia. This additional location complements the central DHL two-man handling warehouse in Ludwigsau and significantly increases the handling capacity in the DHL two-man handling network.
“Since the Corona pandemic, significantly more people have been ordering their furniture, washing machines, or large TVs online. In addition to our central warehouse, we will now increasingly rely on various decentralized hubs to consistently expand our network in Germany and continue to participate in market growth. This ensures that we can reliably handle the increasing shipment volumes of our customers, especially in the upcoming Christmas season,” says Katharina Pellmann, Managing Director Commercial & IT of DHL Two-Man Handling GmbH.
Realignment is Well Received
Thorsten Sega, Chief Operating Officer of METRO LOGISTICS, explains: “Our realignment from a corporate logistics provider to a service provider operating in the open logistics market is being very well received: We are pleased that our cross-docking concept has convinced and that we have gained DHL Two-Man Handling GmbH as a new customer. It was important for us to offer our customer an efficient logistics solution, especially during a time of strong growth in online and shipping trade. Our location in Reichenbach fits perfectly into the existing shipping network of DHL Two-Man Handling GmbH and also offers further growth opportunities in the future.”
In a two-shift operation, goods at the Reichenbach location are sorted by employees of METRO LOGISTICS on an area of approximately 5,500 square meters. “This allows us to increase our daily handling capacities by double-digit percentages,” says Beate Seeher, Managing Director Operations, Support, and Finance of DHL Two-Man Handling GmbH.
Integrating Additional Locations
DHL Two-Man Handling specializes in the transport and delivery of large and bulky goods and employs around 400 staff in Germany. From the central hub in Ludwigsau and now also from the additional METRO LOGISTICS location in Reichenbach, over 30 regional DHL partner hubs are supplied daily with shipments across Germany. Delivery is then made to a delivery location requested by the end customer after prior telephone appointment notification, including assembly if needed.
“In addition to the hub in Reichenbach, we also want to integrate further locations into our network in the future. This not only creates additional capacity for our business customers but also makes our network more robust and crisis-proof,” says Beate Seeher.
