DHL Two-Man Handling Expands Capacities in Reichenbach
29. September 2021The fleet of Lufthansa Cargo has grown by two Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft. The planes have recently received the aircraft registration numbers D-ALFJ and D-ALFK and are stationed at the airline’s home hub, Frankfurt Airport. Starting in October, Lufthansa Cargo will market a total of fifteen modern wide-body freighters.
(Frankfurt/Main) “We are very pleased to now offer our customers the capacity of a total of fifteen highly efficient wide-body freighters,” said Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo. “In the future, we will continue to flexibly manage our freighters according to customer demands. Together with the now-growing capacity of Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings Discover, they form our dense, global network.”
With the two new additions, the Frankfurt fleet of Lufthansa Cargo now counts eleven wide-body freighters of the Boeing 777F type, in addition to the capacities of four aircraft of the same type operated by the joint venture AeroLogic.
Access from the Used Market
The D-ALFK is a brand-new aircraft from the Boeing factory in Everett, Washington, which landed for the first time at Frankfurt Airport today at 06:00 local time. With this acquisition, Lufthansa Cargo has now exercised all held purchase options for wide-body freighters with the manufacturer. The D-ALFJ is an acquisition from the used market. To make the freighter’s capacity available to customers as quickly as possible, the elaborate painting in the usual Lufthansa design was omitted. The aircraft will operate entirely in white for the time being and features only a playful fuselage sticker.
Last MD-11 in Europe Flies with Farewell Livery
The last remaining trijet of the Lufthansa Group – also the last registered MD-11 in Europe – is now flying in a special design. Lufthansa Cargo thanks the aircraft for over 23 years of loyal service and sends the D-ALCC on its final routes to Cairo, Tel Aviv, Chicago, and New York with the message “Farewell” and “Thank you, MD-11” on its fuselage. The active service of this model with Lufthansa will conclude with its last landing at Frankfurt Airport on the afternoon of October 15, 2021.
