DHL Express Opens New Hub at Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport
5. October 2021Panattoni, the leading project developer for industrial and logistics properties in Europe, celebrated the laying of the foundation stone for the new DB Schenker land transport terminal in Herbrechtingen (Baden-Württemberg), northeast of Ulm, on October 5, 2021, together with DB Schenker, the globally operating logistics and transportation service provider.
(Hamburg/Herbrechtingen) With the multifunctional cross-dock terminal, DB Schenker will relocate its land transport office from Ulm to Herbrechtingen starting in May 2022, thereby increasing its capacities. The future site is located in the industrial area on Robert-Bosch-Straße, in close proximity to the A7 motorway, an important north-south connection, and near the A8 connecting Stuttgart and Munich.
On a plot of land covering 40,000 square meters, a transshipment hall will be built, including a separate two-story office and administration building. The property will include around 7,000 square meters of logistics space, 2,000 square meters of office and social space, approximately 300 square meters of storage mezzanine, and about 15,200 square meters of paved outdoor areas. Additionally, there will be 70 car, 71 truck, and 40 trailer parking spaces, as well as access via a total of 74 ramps, including a loading bridge for trucks with exceptionally large loading volumes. The architectural design of the logistics property enables highly optimized loading and unloading processes, ensuring particularly fast handling of goods and products. The planning focused especially on sustainability. The new cross-dock will be certified according to DGNB Gold and will be equipped with a WGK 3 foil to prevent hazards when handling water-endangering substances, E-charging stations, measures for the recycling of wastewater and rainwater, as well as sound insulation.
New Hub for Land Transport Network
“The laying of the foundation stone is an important step in the realization of the time-sensitive project for DB Schenker. With the modern cross-dock, the company has a new hub to further consolidate its land transport network. We thank DB Schenker and the city of Herbrechtingen for their trust and the collaboration with all project participants,” says Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner at Panattoni.
“In preparation for the construction, we have carried out extensive earthworks on the site. The shell of the cross-dock made of precast concrete elements is already standing, and facade work is starting. The foundation work for the office building is also now underway. The teams from LIST Bau Bielefeld and LIST Ingenieure are working together with all parties involved every day to adhere to the ambitious schedule. Therefore, we are very confident that the cross-dock can go into operation as planned in May 2022,” reports René Konrad, Managing Director of LIST Bau Bielefeld GmbH & Co. KG.
Further Growth Enabled
“The new land transport terminal enables us to grow further and is of high strategic importance for DB Schenker due to the good transport connections. With the newly available capacities of a modern sustainable cross-dock, we are increasing productivity and thus performance for our customers,” explains Ralf Többe, Head of Land Transport at DB Schenker in the Germany/Switzerland cluster.
Daniel Vogt, Mayor of the city of Herbrechtingen, confirms at the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone: “We are very pleased that DB Schenker, as a significant international logistics service provider, is settling in Herbrechtingen. This will further strengthen our economic location.”
Authorities Welcome the Establishment
Thomas Diem, First Deputy Mayor of the city of Herbrechtingen, adds: “The establishment of DB Schenker in our city is the result of professional collaboration among all involved companies and our authority. Together with Mayor Vogt, I look forward to the moment of the opening of the cross-dock.”
