October 2021Through Rhenus’s acquisition of initially 80 percent of the Belgian logistics company Wijnands Bulk Care in early October 2021, Rhenus is expanding its activities in the Benelux region. Thanks to the integration of the Wijnands locations, Rhenus is strengthening its presence in the Benelux market and enhancing its service offerings.
(Holzwickede/Lanaken) Rhenus and Wijnands will primarily operate in the field of bulk and mass goods transportation. The existing businesses of Rhenus in this region will be complemented by the decades of experience that Wijnands brings.
“In addition to significant regional expertise, Wijnands brings its uniquely equipped vehicles with a special cooling and tipping device,” explains Thomas Maaßen, Managing Director of Rhenus Transport. This unparalleled equipment in the market guarantees a unique product mix in this segment.
New Composition of the Management Board
The company Wijnands Bulk Care, originally founded in 1934, primarily offers transportation services in Western Europe from its base in Lanaken, Belgium. The management team led by Harold Wijnands will be joined by Sascha Hähnke, Managing Director of Rhenus Transport. Meanwhile, Miranda Frederiks-Wijnands is stepping back from the management.
“We see Wijnands as an ideal partner and an excellent complement to our logistics service offerings in the Benelux region,” emphasizes Sascha Hähnke. The sellers of the shares also express positive sentiments: “The sale to the Rhenus Group is a strategic win for the corporate group and significantly strengthens our market position in the future,” clarifies Harold Wijnands.
